books?

Does anyone have any good pregnancy books they can recommend that I read or let me borrow?

I know Sarah, recommended one (sarah, can you tell me the name again?) on natural birth. My friend did Hypnobirthing....has anyone heard of or done this?

Is it worth reading "What to expect before you are expecting"?

TIA!

Re: books?

  • I highly recommend Jenny McCarthy's books, they were hiliarous and the truth! I also read the Joys of Pregnancy and What to expect. They were ok, not great.

  • My favorite was the Mayo Clinic Guide to Pregnancy.  I liked how it was organized.  There is one section on normal pregnancy and how the baby is developing, so if you have smooth sailing you can just read that part.  There are two other sections you can refer to if you have problems.  One for pregnancy issues that tells you what you can do to treat things at home and when to call the Dr., and the other for issues with the baby, like if the Dr. suspects your baby has a condition you can read about it.  But you don't have to read about any of the scary/bad stuff unless you go look it up, which I like.  Some books just throw that in with the rest of the info.
  • I had WTEWYE for reference.  It is probably the most boring book on the planet.  Your Pregnancy Week by Week was good for what is happening right now in your pregnany.  I also read Your Girlfriend's Guide to Pregnancy and found it to be a good mix of informative and funny.
  • I lend you my books.  I have almost every one since I'm a crazy reader.  Email me and I'll send you a list of what I have and you can let me know what you want to borrow.  The only one that I'm holding on to is Taking Charge of Your Fertility because I'm trying to chart to avoid right now.

  • The one I suggested was Ina May's Guide to Child Birth. I loved that book! I also read Spiritual Midwifery, also by Ina May, but it was a little too "granola" for me... they used the word 'psychedelic' about 20 too many times for me, lol.

I tried to read What To Expect Before You're Expecting, and I really didn't like it so I probably won't read WTEWYE unless someone gives it to me or something.

  • I also really liked the Jenny McCarthy books- informative and real.  I read TCOYF and now I have Your Pregnancy Week by Week which is informative.  I used Fertility Friend for charting, so I read a lot on there as well- if you paid for the membership.
