weight watchers

If your doing weight watchers, do you like it? Would you recommend it? Your pros and cons?

I'm considering joining, but I'd only be able to go to meetings once a week maybe only other week. I've always struggled with my weight, and I really need to lose this weight to move on in life.

Thanks for any insight!

Re: weight watchers

  • I love the WW plan.  I first did it in college (going to meetings to weigh-in) and lost 35 pounds in about 8 months.  I followed the plan loosely after that and kept most of the weight off for years.  I joined again (online) this past January and lost about 15 lbs before becoming pregnant.  I have been following the plan loosely during pregnancy, of course not to lose weight, but to eat healthfully and not gain in excess.  I plan to jump right back on plan as soon as I give birth and the doctor gives her okay.

I love the program because no food is eliminated or off-limits.  It really teaches you portion control and you become very aware of what you are putting in your body.

    Hope that helps!

  • I love ww, I was on it way back in the day and than stopped while being pregnant with ds #2. Than February 2009, I basically followed the plan by myself and lost 95 pounds. The worse part for me is when my ds #2 was in the hospital last August-October, I had put back on 40 pounds and than gained another 42 pounds during this pregnancy. I am currently down 24 pounds just by nursing as of last Thursday and re-started my ww diet by also adding the nursing points too.
  • I really enjoyed it when it was 1-2-3 success, however I don't think the new program is nearly as effective. The support system is great, and if you're willing to make it a life change, it's totally worth it, but I think they've changed the program so much that it's not nearly what it used to be and not worth the money.  I've rejoined a few times and I've never had luck (despite knowing the success available so I work my butt off at following it strictly) on the new programs.  If you can get your hands on the old material, you might have better luck.   I've been following a bootcamp program that is a mid-low carb/high protein plan with a major exercise component and was able to lose 35lbs right before getting pregnant. Now that's on hold because it's pretty intense and my HR can't be easily controlled in class. But I think that by far has been the best learning process for me because there's no counting, just portions and balance.
  • I loved it!!

I was able to lose about 25lbs before I got pregnant, and plan to go back on once the LO gets here.

It is a great program for weight loss that is more about learning healthy eating habits and lifestyle change than a fad diet or "buy my junk" programs. I only paid for about 6 months before I had all the materials I needed and knew how the program worked. Now I just do it on my own (no membership) and plan to continue for a LONG time.

Hope it works well for you! Good luck!

  • I know lots of people who have had success with WW, but if you want to save some money and skip the meeting part, I recommend My Food Diary (myfooddiary.com). I think I paid like $9 a month and I lost 25 pounds within about 6 months.

  • I used to do meetings with some success but "cheated the program". I do online now and am down 20 from prepreg weight. took 1 week for me to get to prepreg (17) but was also readmitted for infected incision. I like online much better. I can weigh in when the day I want by myself so no one is there judging me. I really like the online tools message boards and articles. the materials are cheesy from the meetings.
  • I lost 40 something lbs on it just so I'd be healthy for this pregnancy.  I now work for them.  You can attend a meeting for free and check it out before you sign on.  Every year there are some updates to the program or materials, so if you're looking to wait or to join in a few months, there will be some new things going on in the new year.  For me it was the most realistic and life-long plan I've seen or done...succeeded at and kept it off.
