Best baby books?

I've got some money to spend at Borders and figure it's time to stop buying pregnancy books and switch to parenting/baby books.

So what are your favorites and which to stay away from?

(I'm looking for both development books, like Your Baby Week by Week, and theory books too)

Re: Best baby books?

  • Baby 411..  We use it all the time to look things up..  It has tons of info on just about every baby subject...

  • Dr Sears, The Baby Book. It's a huge reference book with milestones and behavior tips, plus medical advice, baby wearing information and everything else. It is my baby bible!!

Wonderweeks- I didn't have this but I sure wish I did! It outlines your baby's week by week development. This is important b/c it helps you through the tough times when you know your baby isn't sick or teething or anything but their sleep patterns are disrupted or they are generally cranky. The book helps by outlining not only physical development, but mental developmental pushes that are not obvious to the parent. I will definitely be reading it with the next baby.

What To Expect: The Toddler Years (for future reference). I didn't love the expecting or even 1st year editions, but the toddler book has been a really wonderful resource.

  • I love Your Baby Week by Week. I had the pregancy one too and loved both of them. I like this one because I don't have much time to read, so it's quick to just read what week she's in and what to expect.

  • I second the Baby week by week and What to Expect the first year
