I am a PhD student and I was wondering how other moms in here have balanced going back to school when the little one is born.
I am due in January and plan to take a full 6 weeks off when I have my baby, but unfortunately that doesn't include classes, so I will be taking two classes next spring as well and will have to take that time right from the beginning. Any suggestions or tips to help me balance the new busy life are welcome. (married and DH is currently unemployed)
Re: Student Moms?
I had DD1 while I was in grad school and working FT. Here's what I did:
Had her in March, went on maternity leave, but finished off the sememster. Fortunately, I was able to finish out my classes online.
Returned to work in August (I'm a teacher), but took the fall semester off so I could figure out how to handle working and being a mom...didn't want to add student to the mix as well. I went back to school in January and finished my degree.
DH had to pick up a lot of extra responsibilities around the house. We also scheduled times when he would be 100% on baby patrol so I could get work done. It was more of an adjustment for him than it was for me (he lost his personal time ~ I'm a mom, whatever, no sympathy.,.).
I also had to let go of some things: house wasn't as clean or picked up as I would have preferred, we ate out/takeout more often, etc.
It was tough, but so worth it! Good luck!
