I'm apprehensive about dinner tonight

We're going out w/ some neighbor friends for dinner, and these are friends where we almost ALWAYS drink with.

My excuse is that I've been on the zpac all week and dont want to mix antibiotics and drinking...Not to mention, still exhausted (that part is true!). I mean I am barely 6 wks pg...no way am i telling people yet. Hell I just saw my parents and my mother wants us to come over for bkfast tomorrow for bagels and lox (ha ha...saying no to one of my favorite meals? Um...ya...)

Tonight, I have a feeling the wife will pry...I will deny, but I'm in no mood to deal with it (today has been a mood swing day for sure!)..!

Anyone else having anxiety going out? HOw do you deal?

  • Tell them you drank a lot last night and you're still a little hungover.  That's always worked well for me to deter people from guessing I'm pg.

  • I have the same situation tonight. Going to dinner & party - I'm just telling everyone that I'm DD'ing so DH can drink.
  • Tell them that your AA sponsor discourages social drinking.

  • Ya use the "hungover" excuse, that also would explain the tiredness. Just make sure you don't mix that with your medication excuse!

This happened to me with DS, it was during Lent and I told my friends that I gave up drinking lol! Also we are "regulars" at a restaurant where we always ate at the bar, well the bartenders were among the first to know about DS when I ordered a water! Gonna actually be going through that again on Tuesday haha.

  • This is a tough situation-my friend called me out when I was only 5 weeks and I am still mad about it. I denied it and we still haven't told them...why can't people just assume and keep it to themselves until we are ready to share?!? I hope your dinner went well for you.
  • I was at a party tonight with friends we regularly see (and drink with) and no one ended up saying anything. It was a more active thing than just dinner (we were carving pumpkins in the garage plus a potluck upstairs) so it wasn't always clear which bottle belonged to whom, and half the crowd never drinks, so it probably just didn't show up on anyone's radar. Or they're talking about it now that I've gone home. Hard to say. So I still don't know what excuse would be plausible.

  • This is exactly the info I came here looking for.  I've made it through one party so far and no one seemed to notice and/or bought the designated driver excuse.  But my big problem is my wedding reception that's coming up in a couple of weeks (we eloped a few months ago).  My friends are not going to buy any excuse about me not drinking and I have no idea what to do!
  • I'm not even a big drinker, but my friends called me out on it last night, and even though I thought I artfully evaded, no one was buying it.

Usually I would just say that I was driving home and it would be fine, but we got a limo for a friend's birthday, so that excuse was gone. My friend gave me a knowing look when I refused many drink offers before we left the house. I ignored. Then in the limo another girl, who is a friend of a friend and might just have not realized I hadn't told anyone, point blank asked if I was pregnant. I said, "I'd like to be and I stopped drinking alcohol and caffeine when I ran the marathon and just figured it would be better not to start again at this point." It was all over at that point. All my good friends that were there have seen me drink since the marathon... Too bad because I was planning on ordering fake drinks at the bar to fool them! My BFF ended up saying, "I'm not going to ask because I figure when you have good news to tell me, you will..."

What a great thing for your friend to say.  Very cool!
