I'm starting to get a little nervous. I know all toddlers develop on their own timeline but my son has never clapped his hands and has only waved twice- last week to the tv when a bunch of people were waving and yesterday to my sister. But he never has clapped which I see all the other kids doing.
I brought it up to his doc at his 12 month visit and he said give it more time and we'll talk at his 15 month check up. I'm just curious- anyone out there with a similiar situation? He is otherwise super happy, loving, babbles away, says mama and repeats some words and is starting to walk.
Re: 14 month old doesn't clap hands...
DS used to wave frequently at about 12 ish months, but now he stopped waving as much or actually very rarely waves bye-bye. Same with clapping, he used to clap a lot when he used to be excited but now when he gets excited he jumps up and down. I don't think this is a concern for me.
How old is her son, and when was he diagnosed? I just read that boys speak 50 words less than girls during toddler years. I wouldn't worry too much about it yet. IMO, a speech pathologist is a bit much at your DS' age, I understand being concerned, but that seems like overkill. Like you said, bring it up with your pediatrician at his next appointment and see what they think!
just curious why you think that?
