bliss

bedtime routine is:

eat - bottle or breastfeed depending on if it's DH or I putting him down that night
bath
jammies, lotion & massage most nights
book
rock to sleep with pacifier

He naps great, so I don't think the paci is the problem. He does have food sensitivities - like dairy - and I've been avoiding it. He's eating solids, mostly baby-led weaning stuff and some purees. I haven't noticed him being gassy. I'm thinking maybe teething isn't helping but it's been a good month and a half.

Re: bliss

  • Hmm. That's pretty similar to my bed time routine with DS. Are you giving solids at night? I might try moving solids up to breakfast or lunch time for a few days and see if that helps. I tried that with DS because a few friends have found that to help but it actually made things worse.

Whenever DS has random sleep troubles that I attribute to teething I give him some Gripe Water. That really helps. One thing to note - you have to refrigerate the GW after you open it. Maybe this is common knowledge but I didn't refrigerate the entire first bottle I had because I didn't know. Ewww. Bad mommy, I know. Anyway, DS still doesn't have any teeth but I can tell that he's teething if that makes any sense. He has been doing it off and on for a month or so.

It also helped DS for me to kind of teach him how to do something that he finds comforting. I have that weird little seahorse toy that everyone used to be so obsessed with. When he touch its belly it plays a couple of lullabys.  I started pressing it when we were cuddling or when I was feeding him. Then I started pressing it when he was going down for a nap and to sleep for the night. Then I started showing him how to press it himself. Now a couple times a night he wakes up, gives the seahorse a hug to play the music, and falls back asleep.

Do you think he's waking up and freaking out that he's no longer in your arms or being rocked back to sleep?

  • Loading the player...
  • He gets solids at breakfast and dinner.

I didn't know you had to refrigerate gripe water either. oops. i will have to get some. we usED TO give it when he had c9olic.

    sorry. he's helping me type.

when he wakes he definitely wants to be rocked or patted back to sleep.

  • I bet he's waking and then having trouble getting himself back to sleep because he's used to being rocked. My DS didn't need to be rocked to sleep but he definitely wanted me to hold him. Helping him get attached to the seahorse thing really helped with that. I can hear him hug it and make the lullaby over the monitor at night.
