Hey ladies,
I am going for my initial glucose test in the morning - my question is: should I eat breakfast before I go? My doctor specifically said this was not a fasting test, but do you think that either eating or not eating could skew the results? Or just make me feel like crap? I was speculating that maybe I should stick to protein (i.e., a yogurt or eggs) rather than carbs since the drink they give you is all carbs. I didn't want to add to my blood sugar levels by eating a bagel beforehand, but I don't want my blood sugar to spike from an empty stomach either.
Any advice would be much appreciated!
Re: glucose test in morning - should I eat breakfast first?
The morning of my glucose test, I had scrambled eggs for breakfast, and I drank only water. I passed with flying colors.
Just avoid anything sweet- that's what my OB nurse told me.
I opted out of this test - which my primary physician said was at my discretion since I had a BMI of 16 and was in excellence shape when I went in for my initial physical. So I?m not going to try an influence you either way. My SIL however did take that test ? she had an egg, some fruit-yogurt, and a bran muffin about two hours before her test was administered - she came through without any problems. So you do what you feel is necessary in your case. If your test is within four to six hours of getting up - I would have a little something just so you are not weak from hunger. GL in your test!
My OB's exact words were...."I want you to eat...just don't go have IHOP for breakfast."
Good luck tomorrow!
I was told to eat fairly normal, but nothing high in sugar. My doc recommended eggs, so I had 2 eggs scrambled, a piece of toast, and a glass of milk a couple hours before the test. I find out my results today hopefully!
I personally think you should eat whatever you normally would on a normal day. Because lets say you dont eat and the test comes back fine, but if you had eaten what you normally did and you would have failed it.
You want them to pick up on something if something is wrong. You certainly don't want to "cheat" the test if you get what i mean.

OMG, that's what my OB said too!
I plan on eating a non-sugary cereal & skipping my usual glass of juice. I've been debating whether the banana I usually have on my cereal should be skipped. I'll probably avoid eating a really sweet snack the night before, just to be safe.
