Two things that are making me chuckle right now:
1. On Friday night I ran the bake sale at my 7 year old stepson's school Halloween party. There were probably about 50 or so other volunteers from the PTA who I see on a regular basis. I wore my cute little skeleton t-shirt which I got a ton of comments on, just not the type I'd expect. "Oh! So you ARE pregnant? I was afraid to ask!" was the line of the night. I can't tell you how many people said they thought I was just gaining weight. Now, I'm not a stick-skinny person by any means but I guess I'm a little tinier than the other moms (I was a size 6 or 8 pre-pregnancy and am almost 5'1), and I know I haven't gained a ton of weight with this pregnancy, but I think it's pretty obvious that my stomach is not just a wine belly! Once they figured out what was going on they told me I was too small to be due in January and I needed to eat a cupcake. Thanks, I'll pass!
2. I was working at the security desk this morning at stepson's school and was catching up on my What to Expect reading when the principal walked by. We chatted for a few minutes, and then she asked what I was reading and said she's always looking for new books. I flipped the cover over and in the most horrified voice she said, "Oh god, no! I will NOT be reading that again!" She's about 70 years old
Re: Funny situations...apparently I still don't look pregnant?
Last Friday we got to dres up at work- and the line of the day to me was "You don't look like you're really pregnant- You look like you're wearing a model's pregnancy belly." --> Granted, I took it as a compliment, but still... telling me my belly looks fake isn't awesome.
If it helps, you've looked adorable in all the pics I've seen of you!
More Green For Less Green
LOL! People didn't get my skeleton shirt last night either. It's amazing how people can just overlook that and be like "Oh, okay". As for not looking pregnant, seriously? Are there that many people who think the belly is just a gain in the gut??? I've ran into 4 people like that, and I have to tell you, I LOOK pregnant, my belly is out and high!
As for the WTEWYE book, I actually have never read it! I hear mixed reviews on it, and think it's funny that a 70-year-old has read it (even though it's obviously many editions ago). I just can't get into maternity reading. Although 'Get Me Out' fascinated me as it was more a historical record of how handling conception & birthing has changed over the centuries.
Thanks! It's not even that I'm upset, I just think it's really funny! I feel like I'm huge, but I guess to others it still looks like I'm just putting on a little weight.
That's kind of cute and funny that your coworkers are saying that! I guess it's better than hearing you look huge
I keep getting similar type comments. It's actually giving me quite the complex. Now I'm worried my not gaining enough weight (only 7 lbs thus far) is causing my baby not to grow properly. I'm 5'7 and have a long torso. And of course, I know everyone carries differently depending on so many factors. The comments are really starting to get to me though!
At 22 weeks she weighed in at 1 pound 1 ounce, which according to all charts online is a few ounces more than the average. I would hope she is continuing to grow strong and thrive inside, but with all these ignorant comments I can't help but worry.
Why can't people just keep their mouths shut and offer advice, comments, etc when ASKED!!!
I'm the other extreme - even though my last dr's appt. was the first time I had shown any weight gain at all, my belly popped out fairly early. At open house the second week of school (August, so I would have been barely 4 months along) a dad told me I looked like I was "just about ready to pop!" I sort of cringed and said... wellll not til January... and he was pretty taken aback.
My favorite pg story though is an older friend of mine who delivered her baby boy at the hospital and then at one point was in her hospital gown, standing at the nursery window, watching him. One of the nurses came by and patted her (still sizable) belly and said, "Oh don't worry, honey, I'm sure yours will be along any day now!" I know you still look fairly big after you deliver, but that story just makes me laugh!
