Houston Babies

Diaper help needed

For the past week, Evan wakes every morning with wet jammies. He has leaked a small amount and his diaper is super full. We are using the Pampers Baby Dry (I think) in a size 3, which is up to 28 lbs. The size 4 starts at 22 lbs, but Evan is only about 19 lbs. He is a long/lean baby.

Pampers have worked really well for him up until last week.

Should I try another brand, go up a size, or try another style of Pampers?

Any advice is appreciated.

  • We use Huggies Overnights in a size larger.

  • Buy the overnights, we use Huggies but I'm sure Pampers makes an overnight diaper too.

ditto both pp's.  Huggies Overnights did the trick for us.

Oh and if we couldn't find the size 3's (which I found only at BRU) I would buy the 4's and they were fine.

  • Thank you so much!

I was just looking at the Overnights and they only come in size 4 or larger. I'll check BRU for the Huggies but if I can't find them I'll get the size 4s.

  • Ditto overnights. I have used both the Huggies and the Pampers and I think I actually prefer the pampers now because they are nearly as bulky as the huggies.

  • I would go up a size in the regular diapers before spending the extra $ on overnights. The weight ranges on diaper packages are complete garbage -- go by what fits, not what says it should fit. GL!

  • Pampers will tell you to go up a size...per their website.
  • DS had the same issues as yours at about the same age.  We switched to the overnights like previous posters have said.  It wasn't forever.  He was just going through a heavy pee time :-)

At about 12-15 months we didn't need the overnights anymore at went back to regular diapers.

Go figure. We have 228 size 3s left since my DH bought 4 jumbo boxes based on Evan's weight. I think we will go up a size just for night since he is fine during the day. I'll get a small box of the Baby Dry size 4s and a small box of the Overnights to see which works better.

I hope this is just a phase.

  • We use Pampers Extra Protection in a size up from what he wears during the day (Huggies Little Movers).

  • I would stick with the baby dry up a size at night.  DS2 was even leaking out of overnights for a bit there and had no problem with the baby drys at night.  Thankfully, he stopped wetting as much at night, so I was able to finish using the overnights I already had.  I was really disappointed and called Huggies - since I had had such good luck with the overnights with DS1.... and they sent coupons!
  • C has started sleeping on his stomach and I think it was contributing to him starting to leak out the top of the diaper.  I just put him in 4's at night and 3's during the day and its worked.

  • Huggies overnight.  they do carry them in a size 3 because that's what we still use now and we got them through Amazon.com.

Evan has been a tummy sleeper since he could roll over, but that is exactly what is happening to him. He is leaking out the top/side, but the diaper is full to bursting too.We even tried feeding him a little earlier so we could have at least one more diaper change before bed and it didn't seem to help. I'll be making a stop for diapers after work.

This is what we do, too.

  • I would go up a size.  We would move up in diapers even if he wasn't near the lower limit, and it usually worked out just fine.  We just switched him into 5s for regular wear (we just had them on at night before) and I think the lower limit for that is 27 lbs and he is only maybe 23 lbs.  As long as it is doing it's job, don't pay attention to the size charts.
  • Carter is about a month younger and he has been in a size 4 target brand for almost a month but only weighs 20lbs. They just fit him much better espcially since he likes to move a lot!
