Should I be worried...(medical ?)

Last night I noticed I have a swollen spot under my arm right, which I'm fairly certain is a swollen lymph node. It's gotten increasingly bigger today and hurts to touch. I've always heard swollen underarm lymph nodes are a bad sign. Unfortunately, we don't have insurance so I don't want to go to the doctor unless it continues to get worse.

Anyone else had this issue?

  • Is it in your armpit? Are you still nursing?

I've heard of people getting clogged ducts close to their armpits.

  • It could just be a cyst.  I get those from time to time.  If it is painful to the touch then it could just be a cyst.  Swollen lymph nodes don't tend to happen over night unless.  They can happen with an infection though.

Yeah, I thought about that, but I haven't nursed or pumped in 3 months.

  • Could it be an ingrown hair?

I think if it were a lymph node it would have gotten inflamed overtime not just overnight.

I don't think it's an ingrown hair because it's further toward the side of my breast than directly under my arm, if that makes sense. It's not in a spot that needs to be shaved. I guess I'll just wait and see if it gets better in the next few days.

  • Whenever I'm about to get sick, I get a painful and swollen lymph node in my groin area (like the area between your leg and your pubic bone).  I've talked to a doctor about this and she said it is normal since lymph nodes are the body's "drainage system."  If it doesn't get better though, I'd definitely get it checked out.

  • I've that happen twice. Once it went away in 3 days so I'm assuming it was just the result of an infection or something. The other time it stuck around for 2 weeks or so. Apparently, the lymph node itself was infected. That just went away by itself too.
