Am I the only cheap one???

I just can't bring myself to buy a pair of maternity jeans for $70+ that I'll only be wearing for another 3 months!

I know people have said that Gap makes the best, but still, they seem so expensive.

Why is it so damn hard to find a good pair for less than $40??

Re: Am I the only cheap one???

  • I wouldn't spend $70 on a pair of non-maternity jeans.  My favorite maternity jeans are the $18 ones from Walmart.

  • Is this going to be your only pregnancy?  I can tell you that the $30 jeans I bought with DS are trashed after the few months of wearing them with him, and I had to buy new this time.  So I bought a pair of Gap jeans and a pair of Pea in a Pod jeans.  I've been wearing them non-stop since 10 weeks or so and they still look brand new.  I justified them because this will not be my last pregnancy.  Also, the Gap jeans I got for 30% off, so even with the $70 price tag, that brought them down to about $50.  So worth it, IMO.

  • no, you are not the only cheap one! i about choked today when looking for a sweater online. i needed one for my dress, for my shower. i found one i liked and the i saw the price $295.00 for a stinking sweater! No THANKS!

anyway, i went to Motherhood Maternity (motherhood.com for online orders) and they had some jeans that i really like. They were $35 and I love them. I bought them in two different washes, light and dark and the new waist band on them is wonderful. They don't look like they will be comfortable going up so high but the material is barely there and you can't see it when you have a shirt on. They do have pricey stuff on the site but looking around, you can find deals there.

  • I love my Old Navy mat jeans, and I was able to get them on sale with coupons.  So I paid around 30 for one and 20 for the other.

  • umm.. no!! I'm wearing my jeans for last time. However I will be getting some new ones this week since the elastic is pretty well shot out of one pair and the other pair just ripped in the inner thigh last week. I'm perfectly content to pay $30 at Old Navy.

This!  I love my Old Navy maternity jeans. I also have a pair of Motherhood jeans that I love that were given to me by a friend, but they seem to go for around $30-40.

Also, check out https://cravingstyle.com/ for good deals on gently used clothing.  ebay as well.

Yes. My last. I live in a small town, and there aren't many 2nd hand stores. It's really hard to find good, used jeans in my size (1 or 2).

That makes sense.  Then I highly recommend the motherhood ones with the secret fit belly.  Under $40 and you can even get them on sale usually.  I was going on a "per wear" price this go-round :)  I just didn't want you to be as bummed as I was when I realized that all my pants sucked for this pregnancy and had to start over.

  • My favorite pair of jeans ever were $4 on clearance at Kohl's.

I had a hard time splurging on their $25-ish (after coupon) maternity jeans.  I will probably not buy another pair, either.

Yeah, I'm watching a couple pair now. Hopefully, the price won't jump too high when the bidding ends.

I'd love to know how one guarantees they are going to be the same size in subsequent pregnancies. And I can't justify ever paying over $40 for a pair of jeans, much less ones that I would only use for a few months.

Goodwill, garage sales, any 2nd hand stores have been my main sources.

Yeah, there's no guarantee.  Fortunately (or maybe unfortunately given my fat ass ;) lol) I don't really fluctuate much.

  • We have a Maternity Works at the nearby outlet.  They sell mostly Motherhood, but also closeouts from Mimi, A Pea in the Pod, Splendid, etc.  I bought a pair of jeans there a few weeks ago that were from A Pea in the Pod for 70% off.  They are made SO much better than my pair from Motherhood.

I've also bought some really cute, new-with-tags Ann Taylor Loft maternity from Ebay. I shopped there a lot before pregnancy so I was pretty confident buying sight unseen.  Plus, that particular Ebay store allows returns which is awesome.

This.  I got mine on sale, plus had a 30% of code, free delivery, etc.  The price ended up very comparable to other jeans at Kohl's and places like that.  Plus, I'm relatively small (a size 2 or so) and short (5'3"), so "small" jeans are too big on me.  Gap jeans come in sizes, rather than just small / med / large.

I would have been okay with getting Old Navy jeans, too, but they didn't have any available in a 2 that were ankle-length.  Plus, I wanted full panel, and that limited the choices further.

I think if you have a hard time finding regular jeans, you're more likely to pay an extra $20 or so for jeans that fit well (at least for now).

All that being said, I definitely won't be spending significant money on shirts.  It's less important to me that those fit perfectly, and the difference between a shirt that fits really well and a shirt that just fits okay is much smaller, IMO, than the differences in the way jeans fit.

To each their own, I suppose.

  • I haven't bought any jeans this time around.  In fact the jeans I have from my first pregnancy were worn by a friend of mine in between.  I don't know if it is still the case, but I found that the $48 jeans in the stores at Kohls (Motherhood Maternity) were only $24 at the Kohl's website.  They've held up great so far.  The only (slight) problem I had was that one of the pairs they sent me was a Medium Petite instead of a Medium and I was too lazy to return them.

  • I have made the investment in two good pairs of jeans (one skinny and one boyfriend style) and I don't regret it. I just feel like it was worth it in that I would rather have two good pairs of quality jeans than keep buying pants as my pregnancy progresses. Even with all the time I still have to go I feel like I've already gotten my money's worth.
  • I would not spend that much on even a regular pair of pants! So dont worry, you are not being cheap, you are being practical.

All my maternity pants so far have come from JC Penny and were all about $20 each, they carry a brand called "Duo" good stuff IMO.

  • i tried and returned my gap ones. i liked them but not for the price.

i ended up paying $20 for a new pair from the gap at a consignment shop that has a nice maternity section.

  • no! I'm cheap!!!!
I got a couple of pairs of tommy hilfiger jeans for $4 ea and sewed some scrap jersey on. done.

shirts....just search for target clothes at the thrift stores!  their xs is perfect for maternity, LOL; they don't know how to size clothing there!!!

be careful on ebay though..i bought a couple of shirts and they were so piled I returned them...I find better (and brand new) stuff at the thrift stores!

  • I've bought one pair of jeans also by Duo for JCPenney's and they are real comfy. I haven't worn them yet b/c they're still a little big in the stomach. I bought a belly band last week (the one from Target) and that is keeping me from buying black pants I wear at work and it's so comfortable. Have you tried something like that? This band cost $17 and I hope I don't have to buy any more pants. I am cheap and not going to spend more than I have to on maternity clothes.
Best of luck! Veronica :)Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker
  • JCPenney's website also has a maternity outlet section on it. I got 2 pairs of dress pants for work for less than $25. Look around at consignment shops, too. We have several baby/kid consignment shops around here that also have a maternity section.

  • I bought a pair from JC Penney's for $27 and they work fine. The rest are hand me downs from my SIL.

  • Nope! I see no reason to spend so much money on clothes I'm only wearing for 3 months. I'd rather spend that money on something for my kid. Plus, I have a uniform for work and spend most of my time at home when I'm not working. I bought a few inexpensive outfits for grocery shopping and random stuff that comes up. I probably wouldn't have bought anything, but with the holidays coming up I'll need something other than exercise pants and a t-shirt to wear Stick out tongue

  • I got my ON maternity jeans on sale for $24. Since I plan to live in them (and they are sooo comfy), I figured it was a fine price.

This is most likely my only pregnancy, so I don't want to spend a ton of $$$. But there is no reason you would have to spend $70 on maternity jeans.

  • I see you are in Ohio....I found some cute and cheap ones at Meijer. Will go back and get another pair as I get bigger. I think they were $20 or under

  • On a whim I looked at Ross the other day and was surprised to find they had a decent selection of maternity. I got a pair of jeans for $13.00 (Planet Motherhood I think?). I actually prefer them over the Old Navy ones I have.
