Cloth Diapering

Diaper pails?

Sorry if this has already been asked a million times.

We will be using the BG 4.0s and wanted to know what you all would suggest for a diaper pail.  Wet vs not and the like...can you use something like the diaper genie or are there cloth specific pails...also, do you pull apart the inserts before putting them in or do you just wash them with the cover.

Sorry if I sound like an idiot I've only ever used prefolds in the past.

TIA.

  • I dry pail using a kitchen sized trashcan with a step lid. I line it with a wet bag and am good to go. I don't pull the inserts out of my Thirsties pockets, but haven't used BG4.0's, so I can't say for certain if you can get away with leaving them in. I've never had an issue with the inserts coming out of the pockets in the wash.

  • Like PP, I use a $10 plastic trash can from Target with a Planet Wise diaper pail liner inside. When the can is full, that means it's time to do a load of laundry! For that reason, I have two pail liners so I can put a clean one in the can while the other is in the wash.

ETA: We use BG4.0 with snaps, FuzziBunz one size, and Blueberry one size pockets.

  • We now use mostly pockets for DD1.  I have a tall plastic lidded kitchen can from Target and two PlanetWise pail liners (one for the pail, one for the wash).  I pull the inserts out before throwing the diapers in the pail.  Then on laundry day, I just upturn the pail liner into the washer and throw the liner in after the diapers.  Easy peasy.

  • We had a step trash can, but it didn't get enough air and it stunk!!! We now have a cheap kitchen trash can with the swinging lid. The more air circulation you get, the less it will stink. We line it with a wahmies pail liner. We do pull the inserts out of the pockets before throwing it in the can. We also unsnap the soakers from the fitteds. When it's time to wash, I just have to empty the pail liner into the washer, throw liner into the washer and start it. I have 2 pail liners so I can put the clean one in the trash can while the other is in the wash.

This exactly!  I have a few BG 3.0s.  I pull the inserts out before I drop them into the pail.

  • I agree with everyone else, including that I pull out the inserts - I find with my BGs - 3.0s and 4.0s - the inserts don't come out on their own.

I tried a Diaper Champ at first - it fit about 3 diapers.  Definitely go with a regular trash can with lid.

  • we use a really pretty bamboo basket with a lid, it' about the size of a kitchen pail. i just stick a whammies pail liner in it and dab some lavender oil on the little fabric tab. we haven't had a problem with odor yet.

i cd w/ bg 3.0's and definitely pull the insert(s) out before i throw them in the pail. my husband built a diaper sprayer that's connected to the toilet in ds' bathroom. after i change his diaper, i pull out the insert, spray the diaper and  drop them in the pail.

duh!  Is that what that tab was for?  I seriously couldn't figure it out.  I thought when it was dry, my liner was dry.  I feel like such a moron!
