oh its so gross ...

So my newborns belly button has started to fall off and it is almost like mucusy (spelling lol ) behind it . Any one else have this happen to them ? I always thought they fell off when they dried out completly .Could it be infected ??? I didnt think it could get infected because it isnt really attached to the body anymore .

    It's normal.  I just waited until it completely fell off and then cleaned it out with an alcohol wipe.  It doesn't hurt them, it might bleed a little when it falls off though.

    dont go pulling it off, but clean around it and under it with a warm cloth or a q-tip with soap. they wont feel it, and it might bleed but it does need to be cleaned.

    It's normal, just wait.  Use the alcohol swabs and it will be fine.  I just went through that myself.

    I know every Dr isnt the same, but mine told me not to use alcohol swabs anymore. The nurses on the maternity floor said the same thing.. you want to use warm water and soap.
