We had our anatomy sonogram two weeks ago (I was 19 weeks), and our baby boy weighed a little over 12oz then, measuring 21 weeks. The doctor seemed pretty surprised by this ~ he actually laughed out loud when he looked over our results.
My husband was 10lbs when he was born, and Doc says our son is likely to follow in his father's footsteps. Yeeowwwch!!!
Has anyone else had a baby weigh 12oz (or more) at 19 weeks? And, how much did they end up weighing at birth?
Re: Anatomy Sono ~ Big Baby?
Interesting... the tech didn't comment, but my doctor did later when he reviewed the results. Maybe he was just trying to scare a first~time mom? : )
He actually took us into his office afterward to discuss monitoring the baby's weight gain throughout the second half of my pregnancy. He said he didn't think I could physically give birth to a 10 lb baby, based on my body build, and he wanted to take all necessary precautions.
Maybe I'm worrying for nothing? Hmmm... 7lbs would be just fine with me! : )
This seems interesting, I have a 9 oz girl and a 10 oz. boy and doc said it was right on track and it was directly in line with any measure by week on-line websites.
Do you think there is any way that you could be a week or two further along than you expected?
We discussed that, and he said that the first ultrasound is usually the most accurate to predict due date if it is done early, and ours was at 8 weeks, measuring right on track back then.
But... anything is possible, I guess!
Let me know what your doctor says! I'm pretty sure I'm just worrying for no good reason... as usual : )
My DS measured ahead my whole PG. They estimated 9+ lbs early on and at the end. He was so big they tested me early for GD.
He was 7lbs6oz when born at 38w5d. He had a giant melon head and long skinny chicken legs (2 of the 3 things they use to estimate weight.)
I wouldn't let it worry you. Nor would I let a doctor convince you that you can't deliver a baby your body grew.
I love this! Thanks : )

That does seem odd that he'd make such a fuss about it... our u/s this time was at 20 weeks, 2 days and baby was 11 oz but was only measuring in the 50%, so we aren't far off at all.
DS was the same way and he came 16 days early at 8 lbs 3 oz... praise God he was early! He gained all that 'baby weight' towards the end of the pregnancy.
I'd say just don't panic and see what he does!
