I really did not want to have a 40th birthday party but felt bad because it was something DH wanted to do .... something nice. Well big screw up .. he had me up until 12 am the night before fixing the mess he made, he bought nothing but wine and regular soda ... no salads ... did no cleaning .... it was a party he was supposed to throw for me... We had arguments about this party. Half the people I really did not want to come. Then he gets me something I told him I really had no interest in a Barnes and Noble Nook. He also got me a subscription to Martha Stewart living ---- I can't stand her and a $50 Williams Sonoma gift card A. There is nothing affordable in that store you can get for $50. B. I never shop there for myself. Every thing there is overpriced and some stuff not that good. All I wanted was a nice Coach bag and a nice dinner out with him. No ... money got wasted on kids party because all we did was entertain other peoples kids. I did not even get a chance have a real adult conversation with anyone.
Re: My birthday was rotten ... vent
Well, at least he tried.
My first mother's day, I got some cheap slippers from Walmart. Men suck at this kind of thing.
Thanks - It is just that I walk around in ratty old sweats ... because all the $$$ goes towards our son and fixing up the house. Get a load of this - One friend who always comes to our parties brings only her own wine, drinks the wine then we let her stay over , give her breakfast and like we always do we drive her home because she takes the train to our house. She did not even get me a card. I offered to drive her around to look for a new apartment come January because she has no car. She said she is waiting to get a car...waiting for what ... I don't know. When you move out to the suburbs you are going to need a car anyway. The kicker ... she tells me at breakfast that she is going on vacation to the island of Jamaica the day after Thanksgiving. I was not looking for fancy gifts. A candle would have been a nice gesture. We had plenty of food, decorations and games for the kids to preoccupy them. They let their kids get icing all over a my dining room chairs and nicked the back of some of the chairs. The last time these kids came over I had a nick on the table portion.
I told DH I never want another party like this ever again.
Oh that sucks. Was he throwing the party more for himself? Parties are hard when you don't have kids, much tougher with. I told DH next time we have a big one we hire some help. At least this way you can try to join the party without trying to clean along the way or flip burgers.
I love Williams Sonoma. But you are right, they are pricey. Cookbooks are always good. But that isn't really a present for YOU,since he'll get to reap the rewards from your cooking.
Your friend sounds very selfish & thoughtless. Brag about what you have & leach off others. Grrr. Sorry for you.
