  I have heard to just give them a good thorough wash.  You can boil all-cotton prefolds, but pretty much nothing else.

  I always wash with a bit of bleach.  I don't bleach diapers other than that.  But since people are not always forthcoming when selling used stuff, I figure better safe than sorry.  I'd hate my baby to get a yeast rash from used diapers.
