Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Ok ladies I'm about to drop the dumbest question ever

But my sister is pregnant and doesn't belong to this the bump.  She asked me if I would post this.

My sister is 35 weeks with her second child.  She never went into labor with the first one due to placenta previa and had a c-section at 39 weeks.  Anyway, shes having a repeat section scheduled for the end of Nov.  Last night she had some clean liquid run down her legs.  Now I know this sounds gross, but I personally smelled it to make her feel better.....it didn't smell like urine, but there really wasn't enough to say that her water broke.  Then today her breasts started leaking like crazy.  But no more fluid.

Anyway, she just called me upstairs to tell me that she had felt around "down there" and wanted to know if you could feel when you are dialated?  Like is the part that opens up just your cervix, or does the opening to your lady bits widen up too?  Does that make sense the way I worded it?

She has visibly dropped in the past couple weeks....so whats your vote?

1.  Just part of being in your third tri

2.  Could all be related and are signs that things might shake down early

I couldn't really answer about the dilation thing, because I never explored the nethers when I was in my third tri.

  • I haven't a clue.

But I love that you smelled it. Only something a mother would do. HAHA.?

  • I think number two, but i never personally felt anything opening up LOL

  • I like option 2, but I agree about calling the OB. Never hurts to get checked out... unless it does... (needles and such.)

  • I'd call the doctor, just in case.  She shouldn't check for dilation because it's an infection risk.  But she could have a small tear in her sack, causing it to leak slowly, and that would also be an infection risk.  So... doctor, ASAP.

This - when my water broke in the hospital, it wasn't as much as I thought it was going to be. I was walking to the bathroom when it happened. They insisted my water hadn't broken since they tested after I peed and told me the paper didn't indicate it was my water. When they tried to break it a few minutes later - they were having a hard time and said it must have already broken I would be nervous - so I would call. I didn't explore down their either.

  • I'd definitely have her call the OB....and I am dying of laughter that you smelled it. What a champ, Holls, what a champ! Wink

My water broke with both girls, and I don't remember being able to "feel" that I had dilated. Although, I never really felt down there or anything after my water did break.

  • I agree with the other ladies, but I want to add that I doubt she feels her cervix open unless she is way up in there.

right I told her this, but I never roamed around down there when I was preggers.

  • Yeah call the OB to be on the safe side but my guess would be that she might have peed a little and not have know it or it could have just been some "juices" haha. When my water broke I felt it and I leaked constantly for the next 24 hours till he came out and it was pinkish. Oh and no I am pretty sure it's just your cervix that dilates but it could be dilated and that doesn't mean she is in labor but don't be feeling around in there ; )

  • I agree with all the ladies who said call the doctor.

  • So maybe a TMI answer, but before I dilated all the way and went to the hospital and DF and I were still doing the naughty he told me that I felt very different and felt very "open" as in baby must be coming soon. Don't know if that'll help lol

Ummmmm, I had to reply to one and they all said the same thing.  What does it matter if I responded to SB or not?  And then, I have a sixth month old....so he had to be fed and changed and put to bed, so I'm just reading the rest of the posts now.

  • Ummm... that's awesome that you smelled it!!!

I would have her call her OB because when my water broke it wasn't an entire gush, it was just a tirckle.  I was confused because I had expected it to be like a dam breaking, but I knew it wasn't pee or discharge, and yes, I made DH smell my pants (and we were at an Eagles concert, by the way  Embarrassed).
