I took Liam to try Kindermusik today and he really liked it. It is a 15 week program (45 min every saturday). It is $200 for the classes plus a bag with instruments/cd/2 books...
This is the ONLY "mom and me" type of thing in my town... it was in a church basembet in a classroom. I think $200 is way over priced for what we would be doing... Plus, I wanted to do something like this not once but continue doing it... $400-$600/year on that seems like a lot.
Thoughts?
Re: Kindermusik... anyone do this?
We do Kindermusik and we love it. Like you, we don't have a lot in our town to do so this was perfect for us. It is a little pricey but I like the class and we use all of the materials. I think it's worth the price for a nice activitiy for us to do together.
Our family blog
We're in the exact same boat -- we live in a po-dunk litte town that has nothing for moms/babies. I saw a sign for Kindermusik a couple of months ago, so I decided to give it a shot. We LOVE it.
It's expensive, yes, but IMO is very well worth it. The curriculum that we're currently doing ("Zoom Buggy") involves a lot of learning, and has given me tons of ideas of how to incorporate music and learning into our everyday play. Our instructor has been doing Kindermusik for years and is very, very good. From what I've heard, that's what makes or breaks the classes.
I recommend it to everyone I know!
Just finished an 8 week Kindermusik Village class. We paid $120 for it. I had tried out a class a couple of months ago but didn't like the teacher or the space it was held in. I LOVED this teacher and this space.
Ophelia and I both really enjoyed the class. What I found most engaging was that the class has a very specific structure. You get there and have about 10 min f a gathering activity (there's a musical instrument out and plenty for each baby to play with them: bell cuffs, ball bells, drums, shakers). Then we sing the hello song where we sing hello to each baby by name and to the mommies and everyone. After that there's usually another instrument brought out and we do a song to it and they play with it. It goes away and something else comes out or we may do a get up and dance song or a quiet time on the floor while the babies look at books or a baby massage song...etc (we do all those things). At the end we sing the goodbye song to each baby, mommies, everyone.
