No sac but pregnant?

I went to the ER today b/c of some brown bleeding/small clots. I expected the worst. The nurses and NP seemed to think I was just being a worrier. I thought I was around 7 weeks, but I have longer cycles so knew it could be closer to 6 weeks. Well my hcg levels came back at 1998. NP was ok with this. Did a u/s but found nothing (not in the uterus or in my tubes). So she said I was pregnant, but have to do a second set of bloodwork monday to see if its viable, m/c or ectopic.

Does this make sense? Shouldn't they have found a sac somewhere even if I am just 6 weeks? Do your hcg levels determine how soon you can see a sac?

Now I am not only worried of a m/c, but thinking I am going to have an ectopic pregnancy. I just want answers. Hopefully I will have the answers Monday.

    When did you get your BFP (what date)?

    I got the BFP on 10/11/10. Had a BFN on 10/6/10.

    So at the very very very earliest, you are about 6w1d. 

    That doesn't sound good, they should have at least seen a sac. HOWEVER it is possible you have a tipped uterus and they have crappy equipment, or a bad tech, etc. Monday's beta should give you part of the pic but I would ask for another ultrasound next Friday or so. Good luck to you.

    I'm sorry you're having to go through this.  I do have a question - did they do an internal or external sonogram?  I'm guessing internal, but you never know.  Also, I suggest you call your doctor on Monday to discuss what's going on.

    I had an internal u/s. The tech did it but said nothing, the screen faced away from me so I could't see anything. I am getting blood work done Monday then appt with the OB. So I know I should have my answers then. My poor hubby is so optimistic and thinks everything is fine (esp b/c the ER nurse didn't seem worried). He thinks I am just being negative, but I have read enough to know this isn't good.

    I was told that when your HCG level reaches 1500-2000 they should be able to see a pregnancy in the uterus. I hope everything works out for you.

    Im in the SAME situation as you!!  I posted 2 days ago, if you scroll through the next page you might find it I posted something like "no sac, no yolk in sac"

     My H and MIL still thinks there is something in me.  But I measured 5w2d and my levels 3 weeks ago were 400 four days after 1600ish and 3 weeks (now) 5000 so they stopped going up around the 5th week. 

     They said mine might be ectopic and prepared me for the worst!!  The worst was scary!  But I have had no cramps or bleeding.  

    Keep us posted!  Im interested in what they tell you!!!

    They should have been able to see something but the ER doesn't specialize in OB so sometimes they aren't so reliable. Good luck.

    I just want to remind you that no one that has posted a response is a doctor (or at least hasn't claimed to be.)  RELAX!  Stress will certainly be a negative factor against a pregnancy!  Also, no one is perfect and unfortunatly same goes with many healthcare professionals too.  Don't give up hope until you have a solid reason to.  Chin up!  :)

    Um, yea, she probably isn't stupid. I don't think she is calling her OB for a D&C based on our "findings" here.

    My OB specifically waited until my HCG was over 2000 to do an ultrasound to confirm placement because there are times when you can't see anything before that. It could be that you ovulated late and had a longer implantation time than usual. I hope you get some better news on Monday! T&P!

    Mine made us wait until my HCG was above 3000 to do an u/s.  I am sending T & P to you and your lo.  Waiting is hard but just try and relax until you know for sure what is going on.  I'll be thinking of you.

    Thank you ladies, your words of encouragement have really meant a lot! I am staying optimistic and trying not to worry. If Monday is bad news I'll worry then. Now just taking advantage of my bed rest orders and relaxing. This is the longest weekend ever, but hopefully it's worth the wait :)

    UPDATE (repost from the 1st tri board)

    Hi Ladies. Some of you asked me to update you after I went to the dr. today, so here it is...

    I guess I'll be sticking around :) for now...

    My HCG went from 1998 to 2898 in 2 days. So not doubling but dr. said rising nicely. I have an u/s scheduled for Nov. 10th along with my first real appt. I guess we wait til then. I now have no idea how far along I am so I am just taking down my ticker and HOPEFULLY putting up a new one next week. I am excited its not bad news, but still being cautious. I hope I get to stick around and bring a baby home in June! Thanks again for all your thoughts and prayers, I could still use them :)
