I HATE HATE HATE mischief night. It is the stupidest freaking tradition. (I'm no fan of Halloween either- but that's another story). But mischief night is just awful and it falls on a Saturday this year- so like last year's Friday- I am sure our neighborhood will be hit hard.
For some reason the kids like it over here because we are near the woods, etc. Myself and some neighbors have already warned the mayor (who is a former cop in town) about it and he promised to increase patrols. I hope that happens. I can deal with toilet paper in the trees, but bashing pumpkins and mailboxes and shaving cream annoy the hell out of me.
My neighbor just got back from the supermarket and said they aren't selling eggs today- so that is good.
We are also going to a Halloween party today- but I told DH we HAVE to be home before it gets dark. And his new car has to go in the garage tonight. I am not risking it getting egged. If my car stays out, thats OK.
If you have no idea what I am talking about- be glad. Apparently mischief night is a regional thing....and a stupid one at that.
OK, vent over.
Re: freaking mischief night tonight....errrr
Oh wow, that would suck!
Not only would that p*ss me off, but if my kid was involved in something like that there would be hell to pay!
Hope it's not too bad tonight! Good luck!

Thanks! Oh, believe me I agree with you. Both my husband or I were NEVER allowed out on mischief night- and our son won't be either. Thing is lots of parents go out with their kids nowadays. It bugs me. It like saying 'hey, it is OK to go distroy our neighbor's property.'
DH jokes that if it gets too bad he has no problem being the gumpy old man sitting on the stoop with the garden hose!!!
wow. I have never been aware of stuff like that happening here.
My husband works for the jail though. This is his 2nd Halloween working there and he said it was crazy last year with people coming in.

I live in the burbs now- honestly as much as mischief night sucks- I don't mind the eggs and TPing.
I grew up in a REALLY bad part of Philadelphia (kensington- north philadelphia). When I say bad- I am talking BAD. Shootings were rampant on mischief night. My aunt was an ER nurse in our neighborhood- and she just couldn't believe how bad it got the night before halloween. And it only got worse each passing year.
I am sooooo glad to be out of the city. That being said- I will gladly take TP and eggs. Not that i enjoy it- things are pretty quiet where I live now- that and I live in a townhome complex and all the neighbors watch like hawks. I live next to the cat lady that has nothing else better to do than watch out of her window 24-7. lol
this. some people are a-holes and smash pumpkins but i've never known it to be something like what you're talking about. we didn't put dd's pumpkins outside because i would be seriously pissed if someone smashed them.
DH and I were just talking about this last night and wondering if anyone still did anything on Mischief night. When we were kids it was big but it has been years since I've heard of anything.
And we were wondering when mischief night would be out where we live now where they held trick or treating last night instead of on Halloween itself. Would it still be the night before Halloween or the night before TOTing?
I hope you have a quiet night!!

I will admit to partaking in mischief night pranks... mostly in college. And i never did anything that cause any destruction.
My junior year prank (can't believe i am admitting to this)... was I 'borrowed' a house's FOR SALE sign and placed it on the front lawn of my college campus' entrance right on a busy road.
The poor realator must of gotten bombarded becaue it made the news the next day. The sign was taken down before noon.
so far it was just kids being freaking brats. TP in the trees and around mailboxes. My nextdoor neighbor told a bunch of kids to get off his driveway because they were hiding in between his cars- can't say I blame him- no reason for a dozen pre-teenage boys to be hiding around your driveway. But that was about the extent of it- which wasn't bad.....But then some annoying kid with a car when up and down the neighborhood with his car blasting fake police car sirens. Well, the cops were here SO fast (which was good) and took care of the situation.
I tend to think that modest, middle-class, boring suburban neighborhoods get hit the hardest on mischief night because the kids have the means and they are bored. (there is nothing special about my area- just a normal middle class neighborhood, I don't mean to sound snobbish)
This sort of thing is hilarious to me. Nothing that will harm someone or their belongings, but funny things like this. Good one!
