Winter jacket for 6 month old?

I have no clue what to do about DS' winter coat this year.  I looked and it seems like most of them start at 12 months which would be way to big on him.  He is in the infant car seat and I'm thinking it would be too bulky in that carseat, too.  I hate the one piece, snowsuit things for small babies.

DD was a newborn in the winter so we just had her snuggled up with tons of blankets when we went out but DS is kind of at an in between stage.

What would you put on a 6 month old in the winter?

So far I have just been putting light zip ups/fleeces on him and covereing him with a blanket.

Re: Winter jacket for 6 month old?

  • I had a great one in size 6-12 from GAP for my LO last winter-try there?

  • There are the bundlemes that go on the carseat that I plan on getting for my 2nd DD. For DD1, she mostly wore a coat from ON that was 6 to 12 months.

  • I don't know where you live, but our winter lasts 4-5 months.  So, considering your DS will be 10-11 months old before spring, I would just buy a "regular" coat - whatever you would buy for a toddler.

I just got a down one at REI that I love for DD.

  • My DD was 6 months old last December.  We didn't bother with a winter coat.  We just wrapped blankets around her while she was in the infant carseat.  If we had to carry her when she wasn't in her carseat, she was typically wrapped in blankets.  We also used a car seat poncho (https://carseatponcho.com/).  And you're right, a winter jacket is too bulky for a child to wear in a carseat.  It's not safe as you can't properly get the straps tight enough.  We don't even have DD wear a coat in her seat this year.  In fact, we still use her carseat poncho from last year.  The couple of times she has had a coat on, I take it off her before putting her in her seat (and make sure the car is warm enough).
