Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Anyones LO been on Albuteral?

Ares has been taking Albuteral for Bronchialitis. I think I heard the pedi say to take it for five days. But tomorrow will be the fifth day and the bottle will not even be half gone....Usually they say to take the meds until they are gone right? He is also on amoxicilin and that says to take until finished..Ugh I dont know what to do. I suppose I can call and ask them on Monday.

Re: Anyones LO been on Albuteral?

  • I'm assuming he's on the nebulizer? Albuterol is NOT a long-term drug, so if she said 5 days, its 5 days. However it seems like you aren't positive she said 5 days. So thats a toughie. I would go ahead and give it tomorrow as planned, and call first thing Monday. I also wouldn't wait for someone to "call back." It should be in his chart, and any nurse will have access to it. Because if he SHOULD be getting an AM treatment, and doesn't until the pedi calls back after lunch (hypothetically, obv) it could set back his progress, and make his lungs "gunky."

    Good luck!?

Not on the nebulizer...he is taking 1/2 tsp of albuteral sulf. 3 times a day. Looks like I should do some research of my own until Monday and definitely call. I wish I would have asked again if I heard him correctly but he was in such a rush... I just assumed that he would have wrote on the prescription so that the pharmacist only gave me enough for 5 days ya know?

  • Ew, gross, I can't imagine swallowing that stuff! HAHA.?

Although yeah, it IS kind of weird it doesn't say it on the label. Usually medicine specifies a time period (10 days) or "until finished."

Sorry its all confusing :( I hope he feels better! And at least you have enough to last you until the office opens again!

  • DD is on albuterol, but with a nebulizer.  My pedi said to continue giving it to her as long as she is still coughing.  We're also dealing with bronchiolitis.  Sad

    Has your LO's cough improved??

  • DS is on Albuteral for Bronchialitis right now also. We were told every 4 hours for 2 days and at least once in the middle of the night for those 2 days. Then ever 4 hours for the next 3 days, but only as needed in the middle of the night. Our follow up appt is on Monday for further instruction. My understanding is to use it on an as needed basis from that point on.

  • She's better.  She started getting sick on Sunday, so it's been almost a week.  At her follow up appt. on Thursday, pedi found her ears were started to get infected, so she's on Omnicef now too.  I feel like her coughs are getting more productive and less frequent.  oh, and she now has a raspy voice.  She sounds like she's been out partying too much!  ha!
  • I have been dealing with this with my DD too.  DD has been on albuteral and pulmicort with a nebulizer for just about 2 months now.  Her doctor told me to keep her on the albuteral/pulmicort for a week and to administer it to her every 4 hours while she is awake.  I have to bring her back to the doctor on Monday for a follow up.

I hope your little guy is feeling better soon.
