Mady HATES her Halloween costume (PIP)

She refuses to wear it!  What the heck am I going to do tomorrow?! (we're going to a party so I at least want her to wear it then, and hopefully for trick or treating too)

Hopefully using candy as the motivator and having Declan dressed up will help!

Here's the dress (it's an odd angle, the skirt part really isn't that short)

I don't think I EVER want to work with that fabric again..although the yellow is MUCH higher in quality and barely frayed.

  • FYI I think it's adorable.  You did a great job.

I still don't know how B is going to react tomorrow when I tell her to put on her princess costume.  She might be all for it, she might throw a fit.  I figure the worst that can happen is she refuses to wear it and she goes in regular clothes.  Oh, well.  Although it will bum me out if she doesn't wear it because I'm all about Halloween and LOVED getting to wear a costume when I was a kid.

  • Oh no! I think it looks like it would be adorable on her!

Is it sateen that you used? I hate that stuff with the fire of a thousand suns--no amount of pinning or anything else can ever get it to work for me, so I'm super impressed you did anything with it at all, much less made something so cute!

  • If it makes you feel better dd didnt want to wear hers either. (insert screaming yelling and kicking) I got it on her, handed her trick or treat bag and put in the first piece. After that we were golden.

LOL!  I'm going to get her some new shoes (hopefully snow white shoes if wal mart has them) and see if that helps...if not, I'm sure the candy will!

  • I also think you did a great job!  I hope you're able to convince her to wear it!

  • we had the same EXACT problem today with DD and our Mom's group party. She went in all her under clothes (black shirt & pants) and once she got out of the car and saw all the other kids she wanted hers on.

i'd give her a 2nd option (i told DD she could just wear all black and be a shadow)? or just tell her that she can't go unless she wears a costume.

i feel ya on the discouragement though. I made DD's bumble bee costume and i almost cried when she told me she hated it and didn't want to wear it.

  • When in doubt she could always go as a pirate.  Blank pants, white shirt, felt of fleece eye patch and a red bandana.  Cheap, easy and can be created with things around the house.  If you have two bandanas or red fabric a sash around the waist is good too.

  • Or - just dress her up without going into detail about what she's wearing (like dressing her when she's distracted!)
  • Well, at least it turned out to be cute!

I really hope she wore it today.  I know how heartbreaking it is to work hard on something like this and to have it go unloved.
