Babies: 6 - 9 Months

ugh. anyone know why he could be waking up at night, ready to play?

Okay, so i tried really hard last night to keep him in his crib all night (usually he does really good with it, it's just me. i have hard time staying awake while i feed him. since i have to feed him on our bed because his crib is in our room) so last night i decided that i would write down everything and play on my ipod to stay awake during night time feedings. this is how our night went:

6pm - solids
6:30pm - bath
7pm - books/playtime on mommy & daddys bed, no loud toys, dim room
8pm - nursed to sleep
9pm - awake, rocked back to sleep
12am - breast fed then back to sleep
1:30am - awake, wanting to play. tried rocking back to sleep & nursing to sleep - fail.
dh then came and took him downstairs for a little over an hour so i could sleep since monster clearly wasn't going to.
2:45am - nursed back to sleep, in our bed for the rest of the night.

does anyone have any ideas why he would be waking up at 1:30am wanting to to fully awake/playing?

  • Ugh, I feel for you. Is he napping a lot during the day? Your schedule sounds like mine about a month ago. As of right now, we finally got DS's night wakings down to one per night. He usually wakes up around 3-4am and is hungry. He goes to bed around 9pm each night. Then he will sleep until 8 or 9am after his mid-night waking. We kind of started CIO, when he wakes up within a few hours of being put down, we let him cry for 10 minutes to see is he's just tired - every time he has fallen asleep on his own during that time. So, if your comfortable with that, perhaps I'd try that. GL!

  • he seems a littile old to be getting up so much. He has to learn to slef sooth. I had to do this with my guys and it was hard. YOu have to just let him cry himself ack to sleep- after a few nights- he will learn to put himself back to sleep with out being rocked or fed :)
  • Is he learning a new skill? Such as rolling over, trying to crawl, etc? If so, that could be part of it. For some reason babies like to practice at night.

Is been scooting around (army crawling) for quite some time now but he's trying harder and harder to crawl every day
  • We're going through the same thing. I'm just guessing but I really think DD can't sleep b/c she's teething and decides she might as well play...We're going to give some preemptive ibuprofen tonight to see if it makes any difference.
