Please don't make fun of me... :)

This is a baby movement question.... Flame gently, if you must. Embarrassed

I've heard all kinds of things about what the first "flutters" feel like: "popcorn", "waves", etc.  But I've noticed two different things that are nothing like what I've heard before... Can I get your take?

Yesterday afternoon, I was checking email when I felt the strangest thing... just a bit below my belly button on the left, for just a few moments, it felt like light finger taps and slides about an inch across - the same feeling as if you were to alternate the four fingers minus your thumb on your skin, very lightly tapping.

Then this evening, I've been feeling what feels like muscle twitches (?) in my belly. Some of them feel a bit large - and others are smaller feeling. It's a strange sensation I've never felt before, but the closest thing I can compare it to would be a muscle twitch - just one twitch at a time.

Maybe these are the first tiny bits of movement? It doesn't really matter and I'm still waiting for the "I definitely felt the baby" moment before I put too much stock into it, but I'm just curious.

I'm desperately awaiting the arrival of my pizza and figured I'd ask...  Huh? Thanks for your thoughts!

  • Hmmm, at 14 weeks I'm thinking that the first one you mentioned may be a little too high. The second happening seems possible.

I just started realizing mine this week, although I've felt some possibilities for almost two weeks. Now I know it better because of timing. Mine is a tapping too but it's low.

  • I think the twitch might just be a twitch, but the tapping sounds right.

I can feel my baby every day now and have for 4 days in a row. I've heard lots of descriptions, and to me it feels like a little fish swimming under my skin. Which also could feel like a light tapping.

I first felt baby at 15 weeks, then nothing for a week and then here and there, until it started daily. At your stage I'd say it's possible, but you probably won't feel it again unless you're really looking for it for a couple more weeks!

  • I've been feeling movement for a few weeks now and almost daily now. I've never felt the finger sliding feel or swimming feeling, but mine most often feel like bubbles or like twitches. I've heard others describe their flutters as twitches, too. I think your build, as well as the type of motion you're feeling determines what the first movements feel like to you.  I was around 15 weeks when I noticed mine, so you may be feeling baby already! Congrats!

  • I had a Dr appointment on Wednesday.  I have thought that I have felt the baby for a couple of weeks, but wasn't sure.  I told the Dr on Wednesday what I have been feeling and what I can liken it to.  She said that is movement of the baby.  The only thing I can liken it to is, it feels like I have a heartbeat in my tummy.

I swear yesterday I felt the faintest tapping that was somewhere between a heat beat and popcorn popping. I had to put my hand on my chest to make sure that I wasn't just feeling my heartbeat in my pelvic area. Mine was really low though, just where I would expect the ute to be at this point (about 2 inches below my belly button and to the left)

This is a really good way to describe it! Like a rapid, thudding heartbeat. But just one beat every few seconds.

  • I never thought baby movements felt like bubbles or flutters like you hear all the time.  I think tapping is the best way to describe what I've always felt.  14 weeks IS early, but still possible.  Like someone else said your build has a lot to do with it, as well as your uterus and position of babies.  I'm having twins this time, and I SWEAR I felt them as early as 12 weeks this time, VERY subtle and few and far inbetween but I know what I'm feeling for this time.  I was 17 weeks before I knew for SURE that was a baby movement I was feeling when I was preggo with DS.  I'm 15 weeks now and I've felt a few things here and there but still waiting for that 100% "WOW that was the babies moment!"

  • I describe it as if you were tapping the inside of a pumpkin.
