Where/With Whom Are You Delivering?

ryemoryemo member

I'm 11 weeks pregnant with my second. Because we're really committed to a VBAC but want to be in a hospital, we chose the midwife with the highest hospital VBAC rate in town. I contemplated staying home, but my mom (who is a midwife and was a huge support during DD's birth) was way against it, and I need her full support. What is everyone else doing?

Re: Where/With Whom Are You Delivering?

  • With an OB at the hospital. We don't really have any other options here. There is a midwife group, but I love my OB actually. She is very pro-VBAC, and I think is secretly working to get her VBAC rates super high (which is fine with me!).

I do plan to labor at home for a very very long time. Like, maybe to the point where I can get to the hospital and push the kid out, the end.

At least, that is the plan :)

  • This time around with a midwife that my my retiring OB recommended to me.  We will be going to the hospital that I have given birth in the previous two times, I actually like it there despite it being a hospital.
  • I'll be delivering w/my midwives at our hospital with their backup OBs attending/monitoring.

  • The original plan was OB in a hospital, but in my area that pretty much means a repeat cesarean.  So now we're doing a homebirth with a midwife and I'm really excited!  We still haven't told our families though.
  • We are having a homebirth. There will be 2 midwives and my back up doula as well.

  • I changed to a Family Practice Doctor who was recommended and will be birthing in a hospital with a doula.  If we had a birthing center in the area, I would have done that.  Midwives around here can't work in the hospitals (Boo) and I just don't see myself being a relaxed homebirther.

  • hi neighbor! i'm also in alexandria!

none of the providers in this area had rates low enough for my comfort, plus,  i wanted no part of a hospital birth anyway! i have always been drawn to homebirth.

for our second baby, a vbac, we planned and had a homebirth with a CPM (certified professional midwife)

  • Lindsey, I'm going to Whitney Pinger who just started delivering at GW. So far, of 28 births there, they've had 1 CS and a 19% epidural rate. Who did you deliver with?
  • Hospital waterbirth VBAC with a wonderful group of midwives.  Just a few more weeks to go!
