Is anyone on Progesterone supplements?

Hello Ladies, I'm 5 weeks preg & my HCG & progesterone levels are being monitored weekly and it went from a 25.5 to a 16 in 5 days.  My Dr. prescribed a 200mg oral progesterone pill to be taken every 12 hours.  He said without it I am sure to miscarry, and even with it I may.  I am scared and wondered if anyone else has had a similar situation.  I took my supplement 1 1/2 hours ago & feel so tired, is this normal?  Any advice or personal stories would be appreciated.

Re: Is anyone on Progesterone supplements?

  • At 5w3d my level was a 9.2.  I was put on supppositories 2x/day.  I had not had my levels tested b/f the 9.2 so I don't know if I had a drop.  I had a history of low progesterone prior to pregnancy.  Low progesterone is pretty common and there are a lot of women on these boards that have taken progesterone is some form.

  • I had PCOS so when TTC my RE prescribed Endometrin (suppository) twice a day starting the day after my IUI.  Didn't really feel any symptoms until about 5-6 weeks pregnant.  So I'm not sure if it is the baby or the progesterone or both.  Probably both.

  • Thanks, you are so much more reassuring than my Dr.  I think he was just alarmed at the severe dip in levels.  I hope my story will turn out like yours and these supplements will keep things together!  I'll get retested Monday and let you know as soon as my results are in what I find out.  I do appreciate the support and help you've given, blessings!

  • I'm on progesterone suppositories and find that I'm super tired.  It's helped A TON with the cramping and m/s.  If you are having problems with the oral version (I had a lot of s/e like dizziness, confusion, etc.), ask about switching to the suppositories.  They are kind of gross, but I have had almost no s/e from them.

I did felt dizzy the first couple hours after the pill and didn't feel like I could make a decision or carry on a sensible conversation.  Thanks for the advice, I plan on calling doc Mon and seeing if he'll switch it.

  • My progesterone was 9.3 around 5 weeks so they put me on progesterone suppositories.  I haven't had my levels checked since then but we saw a heartbeat at 7 weeks and 9 weeks, so all seemed on track.  My OB has me on the suppositories until week 14.

  • I started taking Prometrium 200mg a day before I even got pregnant. Got my BFP on Monday, my progesterone level was at 29. Had blood drawn again today and it was 26.5. They said anything above 20 is good.

And yes, prometrium makes me extremely sleepy and sometimes dizzy. I take it after dinner and am usually passed out within a couple of hours. If I don't go right to bed, the dizziness kicks in. Just take it before bed and see if you can stand it because it is a LOT more convenient and less messy than suppositories.
