So I just posed on the 3rd trimester board to ask those ladies to use thebump.com's gender prediction tool to see how many of them the prediction ended up being right for. It says it's said to be 90% correct. If you guys know anyone whose had a baby who could use the predictor (I think you can use it if you know their age)...(or if you're a mommy already) would you use the gender predictor and see if it came out right?
Sorry it's just the statistician in me coming out.

Re: gender prediction
Mine says boy.
I should have been a boy when I put in my mom's info. Both my little brothers were right.
I posted and there were so many women who were sarcastic with their responses. It's not 50% effective--it's as effective as it correctly predicts...there is a 50/50 chance of one gender over another. But that doesn't mean that the predictor is 50% effective.
I didn't expect so many kind of condescending responses from the 3rd trimester board. I will blame it on them maybe being uncomfortable and forgetting that those of us who haven't made it to that milestone yet have many questions and thoughts and dreams about the LO they are carrying.
We all did the string test at my work. Every single one was right on. All the girls I work with already have kids. Mine said a boy and then a girl.

Seriously? You think we're just "uncomfortable" and not sympathetic? Perhaps it's annoyance with stupid questions and refusal to use common sense.
The internet doesn't have magical uterus powers to predict the sex of your child. It's a boy or a girl- 50% chance of either one depending on which of the sperm made it first. I'd advise you to avoid wasting any money on the Intelligender Test scam (absolutely nothing in urine that can determine sex), but I'm assuming you've already placed your order for one.
What is the pencil test?
She is paying for it right? Well if she brought it. Do not think that just because a sono tech told you the sex of your baby it is correct too. I know several moms that were told an incorrect gender for their baby. Do not judge her you also did something to find the sex of your baby I am assuming, like paying for a sonogram. What makes it different? Neither are 100% correct. You will truly know the sex of your baby when you have it. So in other words do not judge people.
I would hope that that is all it is when someone new to all this asked a regular run-of-the-mill question and she gets completely sarcastic, bitter, high-school mean-girl responses. Seriously, I was asking for fun. Really...not to do a study, not to be made fun of, not to have people tell me I must be someone who'd buy the intelligender test (which focuses on pH only). I was only asking. I just think it was out of the way for people to come back rude or sarcastic and I'd like to think that it's because they're uncomfortable and forgot what it's like to be very newly pregnant and wonder everyday whether you'll have a boy or a girl. Sheesh!
Well the chinese gender predictor was right in my last pregnancy. Yes I do agree she needs to learn to have fun especially now that she is going to be a mom. I hope she will allow her child to have an imagination and not say it is foolish. I see nothing wrong with surfing the internet and looking a gender predictions. I did in my last pregnancy and most all of them said a girl. Yes, it is fun, and is something to do while waiting for the day to meet the little one.
rpratt1985, this is exactly why I stay off the Tri boards. I love our little community of July moms. Some times you run into snarky people on the larger boards.
Don't take what they say too personally. I thought it would be interesting to see if the old wives tales and Chinese calendars were true too.
Thank you
Thanks. I feel better now and will stay put on this board
I have two girls and the Chinese gender predictor said girls for both! I haven't used thebump.com's though.
And WOW, that chick's comments were completely uncalled for!
To be honest, you are just posting in the wrong forum. I know you don't know better, but you will understand later if you stick around. When you are in the first tri, you see people ask the same question about these tests over and over and over and over and over again. It gets tiresome, especially when it will always be the same answer. Any of those random tests have a 50-50 chance of being right for you.
When you finally make it to the 2nd tri you get relieved that you don't have to see the stupid posts about gender tests because now everyone is getting their ultrasounds and finding out what they are having.
Once you are in the 3rd tri, you DEFINITELY don't expect to see a post about gender tests. Instead we get treated to conversation about lighting crotch, mucus plugs, and contractions. Sexy, I know. While most don't usually mind the occasionally random question, gender test questions seem to annoy the most. You just posted in the wrong forum. Once you have been around awhile you will see that the 3rd tri ladies were actually pretty nice to you all things considered. I guarantee you won't get a better response in 2nd tri.
Yup....I love our little July board....I don't even bother with the tri boards anymore...wayyyy too much snark! I ? our group here...
I did thebump chinese predictor and it says for this pregnancy I should have a boy. For my DD it was correct in saying girl. I had friends that got me one of those silly predicion books when I was pregnant with DD. Some of the tests were pretty ridiculous, I don't think I did 95% of them. The u/s was a pretty clear indicator, she was sitting right where the wand went
I've seen snark on some of the other boards, I think some people just feel the need to jump all over others when they get sick of seeing what they think are "stupid questions." The the internet makes it that much easier to say things you wouldn't normally say to someone's face. Not sure why people would feel the need to follow you to your birth month board and continue the comments, that seems a bit much.
