I haven't switched to a toddler bed yet so this is not from personal experience, but my sister put a childproof knob thing on the inside knob so my neice can't leave her room. She still uses a video monitor so she can hear/see her if she gets up and needs something.
I didnt but I made sure we had the video monitor set up. I was up a lot the first night with her...But I did not get into bed with her (even though she asked) and if she had gotten up I was fully prepared to put her right back in.
We haven't. Shockingly (knock on wood!) when DS wakes up in the dark alone, he just calls for us. Most times he doesn't even sit up. We have the monitor on and rush to his aid most of the time. He's only actually gotten up and come looking for us once maybe.
He sleeps on a queen size mattress on the floor in his room.
Yes, we did. While I feel confident he won't get into trouble roaming around his room, I don't like the idea of him roaming around the rest of the house. Esp, since we're on a second story, and while we try to be good and remember to lock the top stair gate, it doesn't happen all the time. Plus we also have a cat that's not 100% comfortable w/ G yet, and I don't want the four legged and the two legged kids having a face-off while I'm sleeping.
We DO have a video cam in his room, but his room is too big and there are many blind spots (and I don't feel like setting up 3 cameras in there just for him)
Once we start potty training I'll need to re-evaluate the gate situation, but yeah, for now, it's up there.
We didn't but I am a super light sleeper and knew I would hear him before he even got out of his room. The trouble with my though process came one night when I was sleeping with Cooper because of a rough night and by the time I finally heard something I walked into the kitchen to find Andrew sitting on a stool with a block of Tillamook cheese on the counter eating it like a rat.
We first put a gate at their bedroom door but then realized we'd rather have it just blocking access to downstairs and the rest of the house. When they do get up and leave their room, they can only come into our bedroom. The other doors have childproof locks on them.
Nope i want him to be able to come out of hi room if there is a problem in the night. He doesn't wander aroun the house just comes straight to our room and wakes us up anyway. We don't use a monitor since our rooms are across the way from each other.

LOL!
OMG, I'm sitting in my cube trying not to cry from laughing. HOw'd he get it out of the fridge??

Too funny! Did you laugh when you found him? I'm not sure I could have controlled myself.
I'm too much of a worrier to barricade him in the room. If there was a fire, I'd want him to be able to get out. Ryan was just taught to wait for us before getting up, but he transitioned to a BBB when he was 18 months. I don't know what a 3-yr old would do.
Her door it shut and she can't open it yet, but she doesn't get out of bed. She just calls for us if she needs something. It was bizarre how easy it was, to be honest. We keep the door shut because of the noise from her brother (next door).
yes, we had to, DS will get up and walk out of his room when he is supposed to be napping or going to bed. As it is with the gate, he still opens the door to try and yell for us.
Ryan just knew not to get out of bed - maybe from me telling him that he had to stay in bed until i came to get him. For whatever reason, he just listened. It's just recently that he gets out of bed and comes out of his room. Most times he comes to our bedroom first - and then heads downstairs.
Nobody said life would be easy, they just promised it would be worth it.
Re: yet another big boy bed question
I've been lucky and Emmy has only gotten out of bed 1 time in the 2 years shes been in a twin bed.
I'd try the bed and then if you need to put a gate or doorknob thing.
