Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

Link Between BCP and M/C?

Does anyone think that maybe being on BCP previously or being on a certain type of BCP caused their m/c?

This is just a thought.  I was sitting here watching tv and saw a commercial for the BCP I was on- Seasonique and just thought that maybe they f*cked up my system so much that maybe that caused my m/c.  I have been on BCP for 9 years, 3 different types, the last one being seasonique for the longest time.  I stopped it in February 2010 because of the nasty side effects I was experiencing all of the sudden- low estrogen, no lubrication down there, itchiness because of being dry down there  and low libido.  Every since I stopped them, everything has returned to normal and I keep thinking that maybe those pills did something to my hormones that caused all this.

Anyways, sorry this is kind of a rant...but does anyone else think about this sometimes and what kind of BCP  were  you on previously?

  • I think it is a natural thing to wonder/worry about. In a lot of aspects of our lives we do have control, but I firmly believe that miscarriage is not one of them. A lot has to happen to go from single cell sperm + egg to embryo to baby, a lot can go wrong. ((HUGS))

  • Like prior poster mentioned, it's natural to come up with all of these what ifs after a m/c. I can't begin to tell you how many of them I've come up with myself (were my heels too high, was I eating right, did I do too much housework). DH even suggested we convert the den into a bedroom the next time we become pregnant so I won't have to go up and down the stairs when I need to use the bathroom during the night. I've never given BC a thought. I try not to become too consumed with the what ifs anymore because it was really beginning to intergere with my healing process. we plan to see a specialist and if they're unable to help us figure out a reason for our loss.

  • I don't think mine had a link.  I was on seasonale (generic) for years, but had been charting for four cycles before our BFP cycle.  My cycles were completely normal, and everything seemed to be working right before our BFP.

I do wonder if it was something I did, but I know in my heart it just wasn't our time to have an outside baby.
