just wondering when/if babies need to drink water. My friends pedi said at 6 months her ds could have water, I asked at dd 6 mo appt and the dr said yes she could have some. I'm confused as to if she NEEDS it or if I should just give her the sippy cup to hold onto so she just gets used to it for now.
do you give dc water?
Re: do they need to drink water?
i give ds about 4 oz of water a day in his sippy cup. he usually only drinks it when he eats, unless it's hot out. i just fill the sippy in the morning and he drinks from it at lunch and dinner. he rarely drinks it all but if he does i give him a little more. you just don't want them to fill up on water.
i started right around 6 months when ds started eating veggies. he loves his sippy!
Once DS started eating solids, we made sure to give him water - like pp said, it helps keep things moving, ha ha.
Anyhoo, he has a sippy cup, which he mainly just chews on, but we also give him water out of a little cup, with our help, and he gets practice drinking out of a real cup (and drinks more water).
DS2 - Oct 2010 (my VBAC baby!)
we give our son an ounce or so with a meal in a small little two ounce cup I ordered from Ameda when he wouldn't take the bottle. As others have said, it wards off constipation.
I try to give him water in a bottle but he won't drink it if it's in the bottle.
I give DD some water everyday in the sippy cup. I found that more than anything, having a sippy cup (and her mesh feeder) have really helped her hand-eye coordination! She loves to be independant and do things herself!
