Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

Drinking after miscarriage?

I can't find any information online about drinking alcohol after a miscarriage. I'd love a glass of wine with dinner tonight.  But, I'm still bleeding a little. Obviously, I don't HAVE to have a glass of wine, it would just be nice.  Has anyone asked their Dr. about this?  Miscarried 2 days ago btw.

  • I dont think there is any problem with having a glass of wine after a m/c.  When I had my m/c, I had some beer a few days after.  It felt good, even though I was really upset and sad.  The only thing I noticed was that my bleeding had gotten a little bit heavier and I had some cramping after I did have a drink.  I dont know if that was coincident (sp?) or what.  I say, if you want a drink, then have one, it will relax you. Enjoy

  • I had a few beers about 4 days after and I also noticed the bleeding was a bit heavier, but still lighter than a heavy period. A glass of wine will not hurt you, but I warn you , it did make me a bit more emotional.

  • I hesitated to drink only because I didn't want to get even MORE emotional.  There is no reason you shouldn't have a glass of wine if you want to.

  • I was very ready for my glass of wine the night after my procedure. It tasted great and helped me relax a bit. I didn't notice any change in my bleeding. To me it's like enjoying a glass of wine during my period. I say go for it!

  • I was on an antibiotic post d&c that could not mix with alcohol (couldn't even use mouthwash w/ alcohol!), so I had to wait a week to drink.  So happy when I could! If your doctor hasn't said no, enjoy!
  • I'd love to have some wine but I am at least two weeks out.  Sad If your not on any meds or having any complications-I wouldn't think it would be an issue.

  • I had my D&C today and was told not to drink tonight.

Believe me, I'll be having a BIG glass of wine tomorrow night. Yes, I anticipate being more emotional, but I am having that wine.

  • Go for it, it should be fine as long as your not taking any meds.   I would love to drink right now but i cant because i'm on antibiotics.  Enjoy a glass of wine!

Agreed.  I did the same and didn't have any problems.

  • My m/c was a complete, spontaneous miscarriage.  There was no doubt that it was over, so I figured, "why the hell not?"  I poured myself a (very) large glass.  I never really gave it another thought.

  • My Dr. told me that once my m/c was confirmed that I could "do what I want" in terms of taking pain medications and drinking.

I honestly drank that same night. Unfortunately there's no baby now to hurt so really its just your body at this point.

  • Thanks ladies!

My m/c did not require a D & C and my Dr gave the okay, so I enjoyed my drink Saturday night.   Looking forward to next month when we can start TTC.  *sigh*  Positive thoughts ladies!
