Followup to: Q? newborn schedule

thanks for all your replies!! To answer some questions... yes, if DS begins to feed at 12am... the next time I begin feeding him is 3am... so, it's a 3 hour schedule. He could sleep a lot longer though... I think he could STTN... was like that in the hospital, too! I usually have to wake him up... especially if he's been sleeping in my arms.

Q? newborn schedule

DS is 3 weeks and 2 days old. I wonder if him getting an hour nap in after each feeding is enough? The other 2 hours fly by with feeding, burping, diaper, more feeding (could total an hour of eating alone), a little "hang out" or tummy time... and it's already been almost 1 1/2 - 2 hours. He wakes up on his own like clockwork... 3 hours from the time I started feeding him... so, I'm assuming he's "telling" me he's slept enough. Dr. says to feed him every 3 hours.

Re: Followup to: Q? newborn schedule

  • Is there a reason your doc is having you wake him to feed every 3 hours, even at night? (Ours did for a while for slow weight gain, but even then we could stretch it to 4, and then 6.) You might want to follow up and see if you can let it go a little longer at night, especially since it seems your LO will sleep longer if allowed.
