Cloth Diapering

Please tell me the easiest way to clean poop

I am waiting for my 1st diapers to arrive. Please tell me how you clean the initial poop off diapers. It seems like there are different methods and I want to find the easiest and cleanest possible.

Re: Please tell me the easiest way to clean poop

  • Before solids no cleaning necessary.  Just toss them in the diaper pail.  Run a cold rinse before your initial wash to get all the poop off.  EBF and EFF poop is water soluable.  When we started solids I had DH install a diaper sprayer with parts from home depot. I just dump what will fall off into the toilet and if there is still poop left (most of the time it all dumps out) I spray.

This.  When LO was EBF, we sprayed off the poop sometimes, but usually we just put the dirty diaper into the pail or wash machine without spraying or scraping.  I ran a double old rinse, then a hot/cold wash with detergent, and an extra cold rinse at the end.  We have a Bumgenius sprayer that works well.

  • We had a sprayer for a while, but then I found it time consuming to spray them and make sure I wasn't spreading the poopy water all through the bathroom. SO...DH had a utility sink installed. I rinse them out in the utility sink and it's got a built-in washboard so I scrub it on that and I'm done! (I also plop whatever is ploppable before rinsing it in the sink.)

Good idea! I have a utility sink in my laundry room.

  • I haven't installed my sprayer yet (aparently the fitting it came with is not the right size)   :(  But I've been using flushable liners and they are AWESEOME!!!!  No spraying needed, they contain the mess.  You have to decide if they are cost effective for you to use though.

  • first six months of BM only you just throw them in the wash.

After six months, use liners, wipe up if anything got on the diaper and use a sprayer if you want, we don't and have no issues.
