I'm trying already, and he gets the idea but is by no means good at it yet. I put formula it for now. In a month or two I might try watered down juice to get him more interested. I'm hoping to ditch bottles before 1 year if at all possible.

I give my little guy one when he is done with dinner just to play around with, I put like an oz. warm water in it so he knows that something comes out of it, he doesn't really even suck on it yet, and still nurses/drinks from a bottle though with breast milk. He's still not crazy about how it feels on his gums (it makes this squeeky sound, its the Gerber graduates one with the handles attatched to the sides of the lid) but he makes the noise on purpose, he gets a kick out of it.
Giving a 3 month old a sippy? Really? Emerson was like a year before I gave her a sippy. I put whole milk in it.
Let your babies be babies...it goes by way to fast.
I don't buy into this parenting philosophy for many reasons. I have opinions that are far too unpopular even for UO Thursdays. My kid is almost 4 months old, it said 4m+ on the package. It's not like I took his bottle away already...I just want him to get acquainted with it.

Awww...come on, I am bored and could really use some entertainment! Pretty, please?

This!! We give it to him just to get used to it..I am a nanny to a 2 year old that still drinks from a bottle because I believe her mom waited WAY too long to introduce it...whats it going to hurt to just let him play with it?

This... I'm not really looking for entertainment, though... I'm genuinely curious (and I'm not the sort of flame thrower that you need to worry about, lol).

LOL...I like TB and don't want to get flamed away forever, but I will just say that I think many people are way too coddling (yes...even for infants) and that people "baby" their babies too much and for too long because they don't want them to grow up.

I suppose that can tide me over for now, but I am definitely curious to know more....maybe someday.
I tend to agree that people coddle too much. However....
I don't think this is the appropriate time to be introducing sippy cups just yet. Mine can't even hold the bottle yet, how is he going to figure out a sippy?
DS#1 started drinking from the sippy at 1 year, and that took him a few weeks to get the hang of it. We did whole milk and watered-down juice.

DD likes chewing on the sippy cup... she hasn't quite figured out the sipping part yet, though! My sister is a speech and language pathologist and she said that it's good to introduce cups and straws sooner rather than later to help develop the sipping (rather than sucking) muscle coordination in babies.

No flames here, because I happen to agree %1000.
We started with the sippy two weeks ago. I put 1-2 ounces of water in it and give it to her after her evening
veggies. The first couple of times she just nommed on it and didn't get anything out. When she finally figured it out, she did great.
The last week or so she has been showing a lot of interest in our drinking glasses and grabbing for them. So last night instead of the sippy, I put a little water in a regular toddler size cup. She got more down the front of her than in her, but I let her try as long as she wanted. It's funny because right now to her anything round = cup. She has tried to drink out of the rinse cup in the bath and a Pringles can. I got a very cute but confused look, like why isn't there anything coming out?
I started trying out a sippy cup the other day, and it is going really well! DD WILL NOT take a bottle (we've tried sooo many different kinds), and she has been showing a lot of interest in food/drinks, and she has really good hand-eye coordination (for her age), so I figured it was worth a shot. I've been putting pumped milk in it.
Day one she mostly just played with it and chewed on the spout, but I did observe a small amount of sucking and swallowing. The next two days she immediately grabbed the handles and put the spout in her her mouth. She half chews/half sucks on it, but she did do some drinking and took in about an ounce. That is a huge victory for us because she would just scream when we gave her a bottle. I am still excited about it and feel like running around screaming "Freedom!!!"
lol-I don't have time to coddle my babies the way I'd like to. Introducing a sippy at 3 months is just dumb. Go for it if you find it that necessary.
I think that's a little rough. My bf baby struggles taking a bottle and I've read that some people have had great success with giving a sippy cup early on hence skipping the bottle altogether. To each his own, calling a mom who's doing her best to be a good mom "dumb" is.. well...DUMB.
We started one with our oldest at 6 months when we started solids. We just put water in it to help her practice with the cup. We transitioned from bottles to sippy cups at daycare around 10-11 months.

I sometimes give LO water in it. Although, she prefers a glass..
