My LO sucks water from one when I put it up to her mouth, but I can't get her to bring it to her mouth. The cup does not have handles and I am wondering if that would help.
I don't remember the brand but we have one with handles and DS LOVES them! He wouldn't take from one in the beginning so I replaced his morning bottle (which he would go CRAZY without) with a sippy one morning and gave it to him laying down and that helped him. Also, if she isn't getting what to do with it, try getting her naked or in a already dirty outfit with a bib and take the internal suck part out so she doesn't really have to suck to get to it. That might help her get what it's for.
Putting a little juice can also help be an incentive I've found. DS still LOVES his bottles but he drinks out of sippy's a lot too. Our pedi said it's between a year and 15 months when we need to do the full transition so we haven't been rushing it yet. In the next week we're going to decrease the number of bottles a day to morning and before bed though/.

My LO's beginner sippy is this one:
She did so well with it right from the start!
It's made by munchkin
The Nuby cups worked best for us - they are pretty cheap and available at most grocery stores, etc...
I tried a Born Free to start and it failed miserably. The Nuby did the trick!

Now that he's a pro, he can do the Born Free and most other cups so definitely don't get rid of any of the ones that don't work in the beginning
The thinkbaby sippy was the only one he would take for a while. Now we have 2 of those and the foogo (which is insulated):
