Babies: 3 - 6 Months

WWYD

We have a pretty strict bedtime routine that works really well for us. He is changed, fed, rocked and put into his crib drowsy but awake at 7pm everynight. This evening has been a little different and its throwing me off. He was tired at like 4ish but couldn't get to sleep until about 4:30. He slept for about 15 mins then was screaming (even when I changed/tried to feed/burp him) but finally went back down at about 5:30. Now he is still asleep! He hasn't really eaten since 3:15, hasn't had his rice cereal and is still in his outfit from the day and is in his bouncy seat! WWYD? Let him sleep, wake him up...?

Re: WWYD

  • Whenever something similar occurs with Jack we wake him. We typically wake him and go upstairs. A that point we can gauge his mood. Bottle and bath or just jamies and back to bed? He usually does just fine if we change him and put him back down. BUT, those are the nights he wakes for food. So you might be better off waking him for at least a quick bottle and change. Just keep the lights dim and don't interact with him. Good luck!

  • I would let him sleep.  DS is 5.5 months, and so far in our experience, these weird days don't necessarily lead to weird nights.  If he gets hungry he'll wake up and then you can do the bedtime routine...I bet he'll go right back down.  If I wake DS in a situation like this, it only leads to a super-cranky baby.  The only thing I would say is to move him to wherever he usually sleeps if he continues to sleep into the night.
