Summerlin Hospital vs Southern Hills Hospital

Hello Ladies.

My doctor delivers at both hospitals but I was wondering what your opinions are about the hospitals.

The Nurse Practitioner at my doctor's office said that they are both great hospitals, but she said that since SH is newer, it's less busy and I will get more attention from nurses than if I go to Summerlin.

Thanks ladies.  Have a great weekend! :)

Re: Summerlin Hospital vs Southern Hills Hospital

  • My doctor also delivers at Summerlin and SH.  I had surgery last year for cyst and fibroid removal at Summerlin (stayed for 4 nights) and delivered at SH.  I highly recommend SH.  SH was much newer and much smaller, so I got to know the nurses personally.  I didn't get that same feeling from the staff at Summerlin.  Don't get me wrong, Summerlin wasn't bad.  It just wasn't as personal as SH.

    Good luck and congrats!

  • My Dr. also delivers at both hospitals, and we've chosen Summerlin for a couple reasons. It's closer to our house, and that's where we are doing our parenting classes, so we'll be familiar with the layout. Also, both hospitals are covered under my insurance network, but I compared them both on the United Healthcare site and the L&D fees were double at SH versus Summerlin, so our out of pocket cost will be less at Summerlin. So, we have our reasons for choosing that, but I'm sure either hospital would be a great choice.

  • Thank you ladies!!! :)

good point on the L&D fees, i'd have to look into that.

my OB and the Nurse practitioner both said for normal delivery, maybe go with SH but if there's complications with my pregnancy, then go to Summerlin.  They're both really good hospitals.

     HUGS!

  • i dont know about summerlin, but i really liked SH. the floor was quiet, the nurses quick to respond to my every need, clean, and new. the food, however, was TERRIBLE. DH brought me food every day because it was so disgusting.?
  • If it helps I work in healthcare and am in and out of all the hospitals in Las Vegas.  For L&D SH is wonderfully quiet with a lot more special attention. I will agree the food bites - so prep dad to bring a cooler.  Summerlin is a decent hospital but as with all bigger hospitals it is more of shuffle you in and out.  You may have multiple nurses and get a big lost during nurse change.  If you have complications or are high risk then Summerlin might be a better option.  If it was me I would go to SH.

If you had any other options my #1 hospital for delivery in LV is DEFIANTLY St. Rose San Martin. If Far exceeds any of the other choices.

     Hope this helps.

  • my best friend delivered at sh and neither of us were very impressed. also they dont provide a very good mommy bag they give a small pack of diapers and four bottles of milk and send you on your way. while my my cousin who delivered at another hospital received a but load of helpful baby items to get her started. I'm personally going to deliver at Summerlin they are the only ones in town with a nicu quite like theirs. I would like to think if anything should happen i'll already be where i can get the best care in the city. my priorities are wheare i can receive the most efficient health care not if the nurses are going to be buddy buddy.
