Cloth Diapering

Baby Coming...Should I Get an HE Washer?

We will be CDing from birth and we have an older tub washer that we've been thinking about replacing. It works fine on most settings, but is a little wonky sometimes.

Is it worth it to splurge and buy an HE washer now (maybe on Black Friday) or should I wait until ours actually goes out? I thought an HE one would make CDing even more eco-friendly, but it sounds like the HE kind works best for CDs only with extra water added in.

  • NO!

Older washers are better for washing cds.  Cds really like water and you have fewer issues with an older washer.  I wish ours hadn't crapped out.

  • Wait until it dies. I've seen a lot of people having HE issues with CDs. We have an older washer and have had minor, if any, CD issues.
  • If you really want an HE washer I would go for one that has extra water features.  I have an LG with a "water plus" feature and we've had no problems washing our CDs.  If it were me and I knew my washer was on it's way out I would start researching and waiting for the best price to come up and buy it then rather than wait until it dies and you're in a bind to get a washer fast.

  • I just got an HE because our old one crapped out. Works great on clothes, but now my CDs have stains and I have never had stains before. So I would wait.

  • I've washed all my diapers in an old washer, and it's been fine.
