Q? newborn schedule

DS is 3 weeks and 2 days old. I wonder if him getting an hour nap in after each feeding is enough? The other 2 hours fly by with feeding, burping, diaper, more feeding (could total an hour of eating alone), a little "hang out" or tummy time... and it's already been almost 1 1/2 - 2 hours. He wakes up on his own like clockwork... 3 hours from the time I started feeding him... so, I'm assuming he's "telling" me he's slept enough. Dr. says to feed him every 3 hours.

Re: Q? newborn schedule

  • 3 hours from the time he starts one feeding until he starts the next though right? Not 3 hours between end to start? If so what you are doing sounds about right :). We always fed our kids on demand and at that age it usually worked out to be what you describe.

  • In the beginning DD wanted to eat every three hours - from start time. Doctor said to feed her on demand, and it felt like from the moment I laid her down for her 'nap' and I got to bed I had about 45 minutes of sleep before she'd wake up to be fed again.

    Hang in there!

  • Yep, sounds about right. Sometimes she would sleep for 2 hours, but that was rare. It was a constant 3 hours cycle of feed, burp, change, sleep at first. Hang in there, it does get easier.
  • Yep, sounds perfect. You're doing a great job!
    Dear Bump: You suck.
  • tell me again when they start to sleep a little more?  somewhere around 6-ish weeks or is it longer?

  • Sounds like what we have going on at our house!  Last night was rough, she wasn't trying to sleep for a decent stretch at all.  We should get on FB chat when we are both awake at 3am! :)

Haha. I feel for you girl... it flys by, I promise!! Lyla started STTN (with some disruption) at 8 weeks. The day I implemented BabyWise, which is essentially the schedule you described above.
