Success after IF

Anyone else have a wheezy kid?

I apparently have a "wheezer."  I took her in this morning because it was the worst she had sounded since we got home from the hospital a few weeks ago.  (She was in the hospital because of the wheezing/trouble breathing.)

I'm just frustrated because no one can tell me what it is.  Her pedi says it could be a cold or allergies but that she reacts like a kid with asthma.  Ok that narrows it down!  The nurse said..."some kids just wheeze."

If you have a wheezy kiddo, what do you attribute it to?

Re: Anyone else have a wheezy kid?

  • We have a whezzy kid and they have said he has asthma.  Perhaps they have not given you an answer b/c they cannot officially diagnose asthma until a child is 2.  Hang in there.  Have you done allergy testing?????  And wheezing can be triggered just during an illness.

  • She's only been food allergy tested.  And she has several food allergies.  My DH had asthma as a kid.  I think it's asthma, but no one will say that.  We took her to her allergist thinking it was allergy related.  He said he thought it was just a cold... three days later we were in the hospital.  He said kids this young don't typically have seasonal allergies (??) that it usually takes a couple years to develop an allergy to pollen (or ragweed or whatever.)

Does your son only wheeze when he has an illness?  Because she has seemed fine for the last week or so, but she's been kind of wheezy at night.

  • My son might have asthma, but he can't officialy have asthma until he's 2.  Right now they are treating it as seasonal allergies and he's using a nebulizer once a day until winter and then they'll determine if he needs to continue to use it.  He also had a chronic cough in addition to wheezing.
It took 3 1/2 long years, but we finally got our little miracle!

  • My son DOES have seasonal allergies no matter what occurs with "most" children.  We know it for sure.  Chronic nose running since birth.  Start Claritin and Nasonex and things get significantly better.  Stop it and we know it.  He is only wheezy when sick.  Right now he is coughing with various types of cough, but so far no wheeze or temp.  When he is sick, takes him a long time to get over it.  Usually nebs 4x per day.  It is horrible.  He has had tubes in and his adenoids removed.  Fever since April 10th.  Immunity testing done.  This year we are thanking our lucky stars he has not gotten really sick yet.  Keep watching.  Keep track of it.  Don't be afraid to speak up and be an advocate for your child
