I'm new to the CD thing and need to purchase some more. I bought some BG, FB, and Flip to start. I'd like to get some more BG or FB but I am wondering about longevity of them. I saw someone post wondering how to replace BG elastic which is why I am wondering as I hope to be able to use them again when #2 (or 3?) comes along. Can anyone who has used them on more than one baby let me know your experiences?
Thanx
Re: BG vs. FB Longevity?
BG 3.0s had notoriously bad aplix. I converted mine to snaps, which will last longer. The BG 4.0s supposedly have better aplix, and you can also get them in snaps. You can prolong the life of your elastic by line-drying the diapers rather than drying them in the dryer. But the elastic is not hard to replace at all. The BG 4.0s apparently have easier-to-replace elastic, too.
FB OS also allow you to replace elastic without sewing.

My oldest BG is two years old, although it hasn't been in heavy rotation for that entire time. I just replaced the elastic on it for the first time, a month or two ago. I haven't had to replace the velcro yet, although the laundry tabs are getting pretty un-sticky.
The main thing to worry about is the PUL, because once that goes, the diaper is useless (unless you always want to use it under a cover, like a fitted). I have yet to see a BG with bad PUL, knock on wood. But I see FB's for sale all the time with bad PUL. I have a friend who has now had two separate batches of FB's develop bad PUL after about 18 months of use. That's part of the reason why I like BG's better... I do think they hold up better over time.
