Question for BLWers

SO... Long story short... we stopped the whole puree thingy for a while and he was back to EBF... we want to start real food again and I decided to just feed him what we eat (modified versions).

2 nights ago we have him some chopped up pasta and he did great, had so much fun eating it. he spit up a little but he is sick so he spits up a little anyway.

Last night we tried the pasta again and he wouldnt have it. I tried little pieces of soft carrots and again, nothing. I think he was feeling under the weather so I didnt force it

What do you do the times LO won't eat? Do you try a puree or just let him be? What if he doesnt want to eat multiple days in a row? TIA!

Re: Question for BLWers

  • i just let her be if she doesn't want to eat. That being said, it is rare. She has only not wanted to eat when she was sick. So I just gave her bottles and pedialyte and she was a-ok.

Thanks, by the way 'she' is a 'he' LOL I know the cow costume throws it off... I have been told so many times and I didnt even think twice about the cow being a girl costume! I thought it was a boy cow, hence the horns

  • We just let him be if he doesn't want to eat.  I (we) haven't had to deal with multiple days in a row, but (I assume) we would just continue to give him his bottles, which should still be his main vessel of nutrition and calories anyways.  Did you try holding the food for him?  Not necessarily shoving it in his mouth, per se, but holding it up for him to grab, or letting him bring his mouth to it while you hold it.  Sometimes DS very much wants to eat, but gets frustrated by his inability to feed himself as fast or as much or as successfully as he would like to be fed.  This is when we'll step in and hold up the food for him to grasp, or even hold the food while he leans forwards and takes bites.

We haven't done any purees other than prunes when we first started solids (6 months), as he was having constipation issues (darn baby oatmeal/cereal!) and we were trying to counteract them with his diet.  I say just keep offering different foods and he'll snap out of the no-eating streak :)

  • We do a mix of spoon-fed purees, self-fed purees (slurped out of a bowl), and finger foods.

My kid is a tank and ALWAYS wants to eat, though.

  • I don't force feed her. She is still BF and that is where she receives most of her nutrition, so if she doesn't want to eat (which is very rare), I don't sweat it.

I know your LO is a boy. Mine is a girl and I was talking about her. :)

  • If it makes you feel better I read the book and it says there will be random stretches of time LO may not be interested in food at all and then suddenly they'll go back to eating.  Or they might love one food one week and have no interest the next.  Just keep offering and try not to worry about how much gets eaten :)
