We have had trouble with out CDs from about a month after buying them. They always smelled and no matter how many times I washed them the stink wouldn't go away. I ever resorted to bleaching the inserts, but the smell was back after the next wash.
After almost giving up on our CDs all together, DH asked if he should try using the "sanitary" option on our washer (which is a front loader). I figured we might as well try and it did the trick! We do a quick cold rinse and then do the sanitary cycle with Charlies + another rinse at the end. Our CDs don't smell at all anymore.
I don't know if anyone else has this problem, but I thought I'd pass our experience on just in case.
Re: Just wanted to give a washing tip
Your stink issue caould also be caused by not enough water in the wash. I know that a lot of front loaders have that smart technology to help save water. I don't have a front loader but I've heard of people putting a wet towel in the washing machine to trick it into thinking that there is more stuff in the washing machine than what there really is.
Thought this could help as well!
You can also put them through a rinse only cycle which will soak the dipes and weigh them down and trick the washer into thinking there is more in there than there actually is. I plan to do a cold water rinse, and then put my washer on the whitest whites cycle (extra rinse) with the sanitize option.

I've also heard that it adds to the wear and tear on your diapers (wears out elastic faster, etc). I'd try the extra rinse in the beginning, then the hot/cold cycle with Charlie's and then an extra rinse at the end. It's what we've been using (with our HE front loader) and we don't have stink issues.
That being said, though...whatever works to help you stay with the CDs, do! Glad you found something that works!
