Cloth Diapering

heavy wetter & overnights - what should I buy?

Currently we're just using prefolds/covers, but he is quite the heavy wetter and is sleeping for longer periods of time at night and I don't want him to be sitting in his wetness for hours and hours.

I'd also like to buy some AIO's or pockets that will be easier for a babysitter to use (and Daddy too who is a bit intimidated still by predolds & snappis)

What do you rec and can you please spell out the recommendation?  I don't know all the brands well enough to understand the abbreviations!

Re: heavy wetter & overnights - what should I buy?

  • For overnights I love my MOnkey Snuggles Overnights: www.monkeysnuggles.com and my Bububebes: https://hyenacart.com/BubuBebe/

They are fitted so you will need to put a cover over them. I like wool footies from www.woollybottoms.com or just a plain old thirsties cover.

As far as daddy friendly diapers I like BumGenius with velcro. Those are my DHs favorite since they go on just like a sposie.  They come in pockets and AIOs. I like the AIOs for out and about because they are super trim and go under her clothes very well.

  • We have several different pocket diapers and I've been stuffing them with an extra insert at night, it seems to be working well.  We use One size BumGenius, Fuzzibunz and Smartipants.  The smartipants seem to be the easiest to stuff for over night.

  • I like fitteds with wool overnight for my heavy wetter.  I like Sustainablebabyish, Monkey Snuggles Overnight and Bagshot Row Bamboo as far as brands of nighttime fitteds.  I put a small hemp babies insert for added absorption at night.

  • I like the bububebe fitteds with wool overtop for overnight.  If the prefolds are holding her, you probably could get away with just sticking a hemp insert in between the prefold and cover.  For the "sitting in wetness" part, have you thought about fleece liners? This will keep the moisture away from her skin.

I like pocket diapers for normal use, we have BumGenius and Blueberries brands, didn't like the Fuzzibunz because of the snaps.

  • We gave the Kawaii Overnights and shot and it is the first diaper that has contained my heavy wetter for the whole night.  I haven't had to buy extra inserts/doublers, but I do use the two inserts that came with each diaper.  The price is worth trying it out and I find that if you LO has a long rise that they still fit.  I had problems with my MS leaking since my LO has a long rise.

For pockets I love Kawaiis for price and function.  A good value and my DH is super comfortable with them though he hates stuffing the pockets cause he has big hands.  I usually try to stuff a couple for him before I go so he doesn't have to wrestle with putting the inserts in.  I'm still unsure if I like AIOs or not.  They don't seem to last as long (ie, leaks) as our pockets, but I have only one brand, though I did try some through the jilllian's trial and did not any of them then either.  This may have something to do with my DS rather than the product, though my husband does like ease of an AIO.

    GL to you.

  • We used a Bum Genius 3.0 with the large microfiber insert and an artsy fartsy foo foo hemp insert doubled over. Works for 12 hours straight like a charm.
