DS is awake all night so its not like I have to wake him to eat then..but during the day sleeps ALL day mostly. At the hospital they said to wake him every 2-3 hours to eat...at what point did you stop doing that? I feel like we probably can let him tell us when he's hungry...i mean...in 2 weeks he's up from 6lbs 13oz to 8lbs 6 oz....so he's gaining quite well.
did you wake your lo to eat and when did you stop?

Re: waking lo for feedings?
I probably stopped at 7 or 8wks, but I never let LO go more than 3 to 4 hrs during the day. You want them more awake during the day so they get used to sleeping more at night. It takes awhile. My LO is 2 m and the pedi just said she should be not fully awake at night. She hasn't been in a few weeks really, but it definitely takes awhile 6 wks or so. I wake during the day at least until 6wks or so because I don't want her awake all night.
My pedi told me to wake until 1 m at least, but many on here say two weeks as long as they are gaining and are back to their birth weight (if they were full term).
If you are breastfeeding, until your milk regulates which is 6 to 12wks, you can't go more than 5hrs during the day. At the very beginning, it should be 2-3hrs because you need to establish your supply. BM digests so much quicker, so your baby will wake up.
I wasn't sure if you are BFing. You might get different responses based on if ppl ff'ed or bfed.
Ditto this. Even after she was above birth weight, I still woke her during the day after 3 hours because I was dealing with low supply. Plus, if I got a couple extra feedings in during the day, she'd usually sleep in slightly longer stretches at night!
Because we're fancy like that.
Double ditto!
Ditto again! I woke both of mine during the day to keep them feeding at least every 3 hours, and after 10ish at night I let them go (well, not DS - he didn't gain weight well, so I had to wake him at night, too until he was 7weeks old) . If your are not dealing with any weight gain issues, I would say wake during the day and sleep at night!

at our one-month check-up the pedi said he could go 4 hours during the day and 8 hours at night. so i'd suggest not letting him go more than 4 hours without a feeding during the day--just to be on the safe side.
congrats on great weight gain!
