Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Other teachers...come in...

Have you taken your LO in for your co-workers to see yet?  I did this yesterday and my son is 12 weeks old now.  I kept him away from students and the few people that held him used hand sanitizer.  He is also EBF and has had all his 2 month vaccines.  I am now looking at every little noise my little man makes, thinking he is sick now!  I am def. a first time mom germophobe!  Anybody else feel this way?  Please tell me I did nothing wrong and little man should be ok?  :)

TIA

  • I work at 2 elementary schools and when DD was about a month old, I brought her in to see people.  Mostly people looked - only one person actually held her. I didn't let any students get near her.

I also met up with friends who are also teachers so they could all see and hold DD.  So far DD is fine, and she is 9 weeks tomorrow.

  • I took my twins in to see my students & fellow teachers when they were 9 weeks old & they have been fine.  I'm sure your LO is fine!!!

  • Before I had my DD I thought I would definately bring her to meet my elementary school class and colleagues at school soon after she was born. Now I'm waiting until after her 2 month shots. I might take her to meet up with a few teachers outside of school  before then. I totally understand your nervousness. I have lots of experience with babies and am not normally a germaphobe at all, but I am more cautious now that she's here. That being said, I'm sure your LO will be fine.

  • Another probable cause could be the vaccines. They can actually make your child sick. If you did any research before getting the vaccines you would know this.

Whoa! Judge much? And there's more research to support that vaccines are safe than to suggest they are harmful.

  • Also, I'm bringing my 3-week old to my school on Monday to meet my coworkers. I picked Monday because it's a professional development day and all the students will be out. We'll be dropping by during the lunch break.

  • Safer to have the vaccines then not.  I don't go and judge how other people parent, why should you? I didn't ask if vaccines were safe, (my son did just fine...no side effects whatsoever) I asked how many other teachers have taken their LO into work!

  • well I'm a really laid back 3rd time mom and my dh and I took LO to school when she was a week old.

My girls go to the small private school I teach at and we went to the first day of school opening ceremony.

Either DH or I held her the whole time.  We let people look from a distance but no touching.

    She was fine.

  • I teach at an ES and I brought DS in once at 4 weeks to say hi, only let a few teachers hold him.  I brought him in again this week (we are bored!)  This time a few of the kids touched his feet- I figure he is safe with that.

It was great to get out and I know all my teacher friends and students from last year were dying to finally see him.

Cute story,  I teach special ed and one of my students with Autism came up to DS holding out his hand "Hello Baby, my name is Jared.  I am so glad to meet you!"  I just had to let him shake his foot.  It took awhile to explain that the baby wasn't going to talk back to him.  Another one of my Autism students tried to push the strolled out of the room haha.
