Making cloth wipes?

I have extra flannel receiving blankets and was wondering how to go about making cloth wipes.  Do I just do 2 layers of flannel or should I back them with a different material? 

ETA:  Please recommend your cloth wipe solution. Thanks!

    Either way Smile Two layers of flannel works fine. I also have some that are one layer of flannel and one layer of terry cloth -- the terry cloth works well for scrubbing poop off, and then you can use the flannel to wipe everything clean.

    stupid question, but do you need to have a backing to the flannel? Is it because its not heavy duty enough by itself, or the backside of it isnt soft enough?

    Your question isn't stupid, I'm sure mine is.  I just noticed online that a lot are 2, 3, or 4ply and some have different materials.  I was just wondering what works for other people.

    i just cut my old baby blankets into squares (or wipe size :)

    that's it! 

    I keep a spray bottle...and put about a tsp of baby soap in it, and fill with water. thats it! You can also add a drop or so of baby oil to keep their butts soft. but I found it makes the water stinky after a few days.

    I use circo washcloths from target in an old Pampers wipes plastic container. 2 cups water, 1 tbs baby oil, 1 tbs baby wash, mix and pour over the stack in the container. Change every three days or whenever I run out of wipes.

    I just made some this weekend.  I cut up some second hand receiving blankets into 8.5 inch squares, and then sewed two together inside out, turned them, and then top stitched to close.  You can make them one ply, but I had a hard time doing a zig zag stitch to keep them from fraying at the edges and I don't have a serger.
