Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Tell me about your tubby time.

First of all, Hi. I'm finally admitting that DD is over 9 months and moving on over from 6-9. I'm coping. Slowly.  I don't post a whole ton but thought I'd reintroduce myself.

So DD has morphed into a complete wildwoman in the tub. She is all over the place - climbing... leaning out of her tub...trying to stand up... it's a horror show and not fun for DH or me. (She's having a downright ball, though.) I have to confess, she's still in the whale tub. Up until recently, it's worked pretty well for us. Now, needless to say, it's just getting a big ol' fail.

So... I'm curious: what do you use for bath time? Is your LO in the big tub? Do you put anything down underneath? Or... is LO in an insert of some kind? (I eyeballed the big inflatable duckie at Target today...) In a bath seat? How all over the place are they at bath time with the setup you have? Basically, just tell me everything. Smile

I'm willing to try just about anything other than showering with her. She is incredibly active and I would just be paranoid about her slipping out of my grasp.

  • We just use the big tub.  I did buy a bath mat though because it was too slippery for DD without it.  She does crawl around, try to stand up, etc. but that is just how they are at this age.

  • Just the regular bathtub. She splashes, pours water out of the tub, stands up, drinks water, everything you dont want them to do! But she LOVES it. I am always a hand reach away.

  • We used the duck tub for a few months and it worked really well.

At about 9.5 months we switched to just using the big tub. I fill it up with a few inches of water and let DD crawl around and play. I was so worried that she would slip and fall but we have not had that problem.

I used to put a towel on the bottom of the tub, but it just got in her way so now we don't use anything.

  • We moved Ophelia to the regular bathtub a couple weeks ago.  She loves it.  We have the Boon Bug for all her bath toys.  She absolutely loves the foam toys.  She likes to stick them on the side of the tub :-)  She also likes to eat the bubbles off her hands :-/

  • Piper's tubby time is shared with big sis (and has been since piper was about 4-5 months old). They looooooove it. We developed a few rules through tubbing with the bigger girl, and just repeat/enforce them with the little one. 1. standing up, means you are done. If either of them stand up, that girl gets pulled immediately. I always say in a chipper voice, "Oh, you're all done, okay." It takes maybe 3 times for them to figure it out. 2. Water stays in the tub. One warning, next time bath is over (for that child). 3. toys stay in the tub, any thrown toy is gone for that bath. I found that these make bath time safe, relaxing and fun for all.

We also let them pick which toy they play with in the tub, but limit it. ie ducks tonight, bubbles the night before, watering can before that, I'm putting money on ducks again tomorrow. We wash hair every other night approx.

We typically end bath time singing taps, sara thinks god is night rather than nigh but whatev. It is a nice slow song that changes the mood to bedtime.

  • Normally DS is in are garden tub with either me or DH and the other person bathes him while the one in the tub holds or moves him around. If it's just one of us, we use the guest bath which is a normal shower bath combo and not nearly as deep. We use a hand towel under him, though he has been standing and holding onto the faucet which does make it easier to get certain parts.
